The West Coast Avengers is a fictional superhero team that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They were created by writer Roger Stern and artist Bob Hall, and made their first appearance in "West Coast Avengers" #1 in 1984. The team was formed as a spin-off of the original Avengers and was based on the West Coast of the United States. The initial roster of the West Coast Avengers consisted of Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Mockingbird (Bobbi Morse), Tigra (Greer Grant Nelson), Wonder Man (Simon Williams), and Iron Man (James Rhodes). Later on, additional members joined the team, including War Machine (Rhodey taking up the Iron Man mantle), Moon Knight, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and others.
The West Coast Avengers operated independently from the main Avengers team based in New York City. They dealt with threats specific to the West Coast and often found themselves in conflicts with local criminals, supervillains, and other threats. They also had their own headquarters, known as "The Compound," located in California. The team had various storylines throughout their publication history, facing both external and internal challenges. They battled supervillains such as Ultron, Doctor Demonicus, and Graviton, and encountered other Marvel characters like Spider-Woman, US Agent, and the Great Lakes Avengers. The West Coast Avengers series was canceled in 1989 after 102 issues.
Since then, the West Coast Avengers have made sporadic appearances in other Marvel comic book series. They have also been featured in different iterations and reboots, such as the "Avengers West Coast" series in the 1990s and a more recent limited series titled "West Coast Avengers" in 2018. It's important to note that the specific roster and storylines of the West Coast Avengers may vary depending on the era and the comic book series in which they appear.
