By Mulder, 17 march 2023

From protector to tyrant, outcast to outlaw, loner to leader, mayor to mutineer... how will The Power transform you? Today, Prime Video unveiled the electrifying official trailer and first images from the global thriller The Power. The emotionally rich series from Sister (Chernobyl) and showrunner Raelle Tucker (True Blood, Jessica Jones) is based on the award-winning novel by British author Naomi Alderman. The first three episodes of The Power series will air exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, March 31, with new episodes available every Friday until the season finale on May 12.

The world of The Power is our world, except for an anomaly of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, all teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. As this power evolves from a simple tingle in the collarbones to a complete reversal of the world's balance of power, The Power follows a group of incredible characters from London to Seattle, from Nigeria to Eastern Europe.

In February 2019, it was announced that Jane Featherstone and Reed Morano would adapt The Power for Amazon. The production company Sister Pictures had previously optioned the book in 2016. The Power was created by Naomi Alderman, who wrote the novel on which the series is based. The series is executive produced by Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, Alderman, Morano, Claire Wilson, and produced by Tim Bricknell. The series has an all-female writers room, which includes Claire Wilson, Sarah Quintrell, Whit Anderson, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, and Rebecca Levene. Quintrell also serves as co-executive producer and story consultant.

The series stars Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, alongside John Leguizamo as Rob Lopez, Auli’i Cravalho as Jos Cleary-Lopez, Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev, Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery, and more.

The series was set to start production in late 2019 in Georgia, but withdrew due to a newly-signed abortion law.  Filming began in early February 2020 but was paused in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming occurred in Fairford and Lechlade. Other shooting locations included the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre and Bawdsey, which was chosen to take the place of Toronto, where filming was supposed to occur before the pandemic. In late October 2021, the series filmed near Walvis Bay in Namibia.

The Power comes from Amazon Studios and Sister, with Raelle Tucker (True Blood) serving as showrunner.
