Disney+ has unveiled a first trailer for the feature-length documentary Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, starring Dave Letterman, which will be released on Disney+ on March 17 to coincide with St. Patrick's Day and the release of their new album "Songs of Surrender," which features new versions of 40 of the band's signature songs. For this documentary, Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville filmed American host and comedian David Letterman during his first visit to Dublin with Bono and The Edge, where he attended a special U2 concert.
Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, a mix of music footage and documentary discovery with Bono and The Edge and David Letterman's hilarious commentary, is produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard for Imagine Documentaries, Morgan Neville for Tremolo Productions and David Letterman for Worldwide Pants.
In addition to the concert footage, the documentary looks at Bono and The Edge's extraordinary 45-year friendship and one of the most remarkable musical collaborations in rock 'n' roll history, and will (re)discover Dublin through the eyes of David Letterman, who has never been to the two men's hometown before.
David Letterman has known the band members for 25 years, but he had only ever been around Bono and The Edge in the United States. In addition to being their guest of honor at an intimate concert at an iconic venue, the former Ambassador Cinema in Dublin's North End, Dave embarks on his own exploration of the city. He visits the legendary Forty Foot bathing spot on a chilly morning and takes the commuter train to the north end of Co. Wicklow. He also inspires a brand new song written by The Edge and Bono and finds himself at the legendary McDaid's pub on Grafton Street with a group of equally legendary artists and musicians, including Bono, The Edge, Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová, Imelda May, Loah, Saint Sister, Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C. and Dermot Kennedy, whose voice Bono describes as a "sonic boom."
U2's new album, Songs of Surrender, features new versions of 40 of the band's famous signature songs, including With or Without You, One, Beautiful Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Invisible, re-recorded over the past two years. A first track, Pride (In the Name of Love), is available now. The songs on Songs of Surrender are musical reinventions (with new arrangements and sometimes new lyrics), chosen and produced by The Edge.
Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes, Séamus Murphy-Mitchell, Meredith Kaulfers and Mike Sweeney of Imagine Documentaries, Morgan Neville and Caitrin Roger of Tremolo, and Tom Keaney and Mary Barclay of Worldwide Pants are executive producers of Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman. Marc Buhaj is the deputy general manager of programs and documentaries and Marjon Javadi is the deputy general manager of documentaries and documentary series for Disney Branded Television.
