Lego - K-pop group sets the track on fire with new LEGO Ideas BTS Dynamite set

By Mulder, 16 february 2023

The Lego group is setting the world on fire with its new product: a tribute to global pop icons, BTS. The Lego Ideas BTS Dynamite set, designed by Lego construction fans, features the band in the setting of the video for their world-famous single Dynamite. When it was released in August 2020, the video surpassed 100 million views in less than twenty-four hours, and one billion views in just eight months, making it the band's first #1 single in the US.

Fans will be able to sing the night away as they build this 749-brick Lego set and discover the many details and winks that have been inserted in reference to the iconic song. It's a combination of karaoke and construction, and a world of disco, doughnuts, and elaborate choreography.

This new product perfectly reflects the colourful codes and pays tribute to the group's creativity. It includes the doughnut shop, the ice cream truck and the record shop from the video. Each building is detachable from the rest of the set, allowing fans to play or display them as they see fit.

The set would not be complete without the world's largest South Korean boy band, now available as Lego minifigures for the very first time! The seven members of the band - RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook - are ready to sing and dance together on the Lego stage.

This LEGO® Ideas product was designed by two American fans, Josh, 20, from Indiana, and Jacob, 21, from New York. They worked together to bring this set to life by combining their love of the band BTS and their passion for Lego construction.

Of their creative process, Jacob explains, "Josh did the construction and design and, as a big BTS fan, I told him what to include in the product, the most important and representative elements. It was a really fun process."

Josh continues: "Jacob had the knowledge of the BTS band, so he was able to direct the build. I watched the video clip over and over and tried to capture its essence in Lego bricks. It was amazing, the project went viral overnight."

Commenting on the development of the product, Federico Begher, Lego Group Manager, said, "When we saw Josh and Jacob's colourful design, we knew it would be a hit and this was proven by the speed with which they reached 10,000 votes on the Lego Ideas platform. BTS fans have already embraced the design, so it was important that we were as true to the original creation as possible. The set highlights creativity, passion and, most importantly, fun! We can't wait for the fans to build and display it."

The Lego Ideas BTS Dynamite set will be available in early March 2023 for £99.99 at www.LEGO.com/BTS and in Lego shops.
