Among the new features announced for members of its Premium subscription, Netflix now offers spatialized audio. Starting today and without changing anything to their configuration, Netflix Premium subscribers will be able to enjoy more than 700 titles from the catalog with immersive cinematic audio rendering via simple stereo speakers. For this purpose, Netflix has chosen Sennheiser's AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio technology.
The Sennheiser technology, developed in partnership with Netflix, immerses the viewer in an unprecedented immersive experience via simple stereo speakers while carefully respecting the original surround or immersive mix. To enjoy it, Netflix Premium members need not change their usual setup at all.

New AMBEO 2-Channel Surround Rendering
In addition to Dolby Atmos® sound content, the Netflix catalog of spatial audio titles will now offer non-Atmos® surround content. "This new capability now allows surround mixes to be processed via AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio and unlocks spatial sound on a large amount of titles among the Netflix catalog," adds Renato Pellegrini. "As a result, Netflix premium subscribers will be able to consume a wider selection of titles in immersive audio under any circumstances."
Respectful rendering
Sennheiser's customers include many audio engineers and professionals in mixing and re-recording. We understand how important audio quality and mixing intent are to them. We created AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio hand in hand with mixing professionals to give them graduated control over the degree of spatialization.
A preview tool allows you to compare the standard stereo output with AMBEO's and adjust rendering parameters by individual or grouped stream types. This allows for specific streams, such as dialogue, to be excluded from spatialization, for music to come from the right and left outputs, and for immersive rendering to apply to all other streams. The rendering engine strives to translate the mixing intent while immersing the viewer in an unprecedented immersive audio experience not previously possible with two speakers.

Premium Netflix subscribers can now watch hundreds of titles from the Netflix catalog with AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio. This includes Stranger Things, The Watcher, Wednesday, and Glass Onion: A History of Knives. Other titles that will be added to the list soon include You, You in My House and Back, and Luther: Fallen Sun.
