VideoGames - Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed: Its development plan in 2023

By Mulder, 07 december 2022

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a 4 vs 1 action game launched on Tuesday, October 18 by asymmetric multiplayer specialists IllFonic. Today, the developer and self-publisher shares some information about its development plan for the title in 2023.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a fun multiplayer game perfect for all skill levels. Play as the Ghostbusters or the Ghosts! Four packs of Ghostbusters-wielding protons attempt to catch a Ghost haunting unique locations in asymmetrical multiplayer battles (online or offline). As players progress, they will unlock cosmetics and upgrades for Ghostbusters and Ghosts to further enhance their gaming experiences. The look and feel will offer fans an immersive experience in the universe, allowing them to play out their Ghostbusting fantasies. Whether it's hunting or haunting, the game is easy to learn and fun to master! Play an asymmetrical game of hide and seek. True to the form of IllFonic's past titles, this title is a 4v1 configuration where players will either play as part of a team of new Ghostbusters or as a singular Ghost. Enjoy the game solo or with up to four players across all platforms with cross-play. Includes online and offline single player mode available as AI-assisted play.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed has all the iconic gear and gadgets, from proton packs to PKE counters and ghost traps, that fans would expect and new players to the universe will enjoy when playing as a Ghostbuster. The ghosts have multiple abilities in their arsenal, such as item possession, of course sliming, and more, which make haunting all the different locations a pleasure to play. Additionally, many will recognize the Firehouse and Ray's Occult Books that serve as the hub of the game. This is where players can choose missions, customize their characters, practice shooting their proton packs, and explore all there is to learn. And yes, you'll hear the actors from the original film reprise their roles as Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, as well as some new friends! Physical editions of the game will receive early access to the Basher Ghost, a rare Ectoplast Skin, Ghostbusters RC Ghost Trap and a special PKE Meter.

At the launch of Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, players were able to hunt or haunt through five unique maps. Starting in the first quarter of 2023, IllFonic will add a new map, The Facility. This facility, which closed permanently in the late 1980s, was recently purchased by a group of private investors, who plan to renovate and reopen it. Unfortunately for them, the building is plagued by ghostly activity, and workers refuse to enter the haunted health center. Design Director Jordan Mathewson explains what makes this map unique: "The appearance of this timeworn game space gives players a unique feeling compared to our current workplace [maps]. The workers, who are civilians, began a renovation of the infrastructure, which revealed why it had been abandoned. Various corridors combined with medium-sized rooms overlap to provide a unique, more intimate gameplay experience with an eerie aesthetic. These new areas of the map can be used in interesting ways to the advantage of each player, whether they are Ghostbuster or Ghost. We'll have more on that soon!".

In addition to the map, the community will be able to play as a new type of ghost: the Muncher. Instantly recognizable, this fan classic is the most requested ghost at IllFonic to date. For players who like to haunt, it will be nice to get their hands on this mischievous spirit. No worries for all those who heard the call of the firehouse, they will also get new character customization options in DLC #1! Players can expect more images and details as the first release date of the year approaches. Keep in mind that IllFonic plans to release similar DLC for free each quarter of 2023, in addition to the gameplay convenience fixes they are currently making to Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
