Based on the New York Times bestseller Old, Grumpy and Suicidal - Life According to Ove, A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy old man who has nothing to live for after his wife dies. Just as he is about to end it all, he is disturbed in his plans by a young and energetic family that moves into the house next door: he then meets Marisol, gifted with a great sense of repartee, and understands that he has found an adversary worthy of him! As she pushes him to take a different look at life, an unlikely friendship develops between them that completely disrupts Otto's bearings... A funny and touching adventure about love, grief and life, A Man Called Otto tells the story of how some families are born in a completely unexpected way!

Directed by Marc Forster (Neverland), A Man Called Otto stars Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump), Mariana Treviño (Club de Cuervos), Rachel Keller (Fargo) and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven). The screenplay is by David Magee (nominated for the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Life of Pi (2012), and Neverland (2004)), based on the best-selling book Old, Grouchy and Suicidal - Life According to Ove by Fredrik Backman. The film is also based on the Swedish film Mr. Ove written and directed by Hannes Holm. It is produced by Fredrik Wikström Nicastro, Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman.

In September 2017, it was announced that Tom Hanks would star in an English-language adaptation of the 2015 film A Man Called Ove, and that he would also be a producer alongside Playtone partner Gary Goetzman, Rita Wilson and SF Studios' Fredrik Wikström Nicastro. Marc Forster was confirmed as director of the film in January 2022, with David Magee writing the screenplay. On February 10, 2022, it was announced that Sony Pictures had pre-purchased the rights to the film for approximately $60 million USD from the European Film Market. Filming began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in February 2022. It was completed in May 2022.

The film is scheduled to premiere in New York and Los Angeles for a limited release on December 30, 2022, before a wide release in the United States on January 13, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing. It was originally scheduled for a single wide release on December 25, 2022, but was later moved up to December 14, 2022, before moving to the current release plan.

Synopsis:
Otto Anderson is a cranky widower who is very set in his ways. When a young, lively family moves in next door, he meets his partner in Marisol with a quick wit and very pregnant, leading to an unlikely friendship that will turn his world upside down. Experience a funny and heartwarming story about how some families come from the most unexpected places.
