Sonic Frontiers is a platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. As Sonic the Hedgehog, the player explores the mysterious Starfall Islands to collect the Chaos Emeralds after Sonic and his friends are separated by falling through a wormhole. Frontiers incorporates platforming and traditional Sonic elements, such as rings and grind rails, into the series' first open world, where the player solves puzzles to collect items and battles robot enemies. Development began after the release of Sonic Forces (2017). Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka wanted Frontiers to establish a new model for Sonic games to follow, similar to Sonic Adventure (1998). Sonic Team opted for an open-ended design and focused on adapting Sonic's abilities to an open world. Frontiers is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on November 8, 2022.

Join Sonic on a new journey in search of the Chaos Emeralds, where he will face hordes of powerful enemies and explore a world filled with action, adventure and breathtaking mysteries.  
 

Sonic Frontiers is a new open-world action-adventure game, where Sonic begins a new chapter on the mysterious Starfall Islands in search of the missing Chaos Emeralds.  As he seeks to find his friends, he will have to unravel the mysteries of the ancient civilization whose ruins dot this strange place and face the enemies he encounters there.
 

This new high-speed open-world platformer gives players the freedom to explore the Starfall Islands at their leisure, with a level of speed that only Sonic can achieve, and with no predefined path. Sonic Frontiers is a giant leap forward for the franchise and transports our hero into the future of 3D action games with a never-before-seen playable world map, while paying homage to the old cult games.  The Starfall Islands are filled with diverse landscapes, ancient structures, and fascinating secrets, and each area has an array of unique activities to offer: platforming, combat, puzzles, side quests, cyberspace and more. Everything can be done in any order to best suit your play style.
