Festivals - PIFFF 2022 : The first information

By Mulder, 20 october 2022

The next edition of PIFFF will take place from December 6 to 12 in Paris at the Max Linder Panorama.

The opening film will be Shin Ultraman by Shinji Higuchi.  Shin Ultraman is a 2022 Japanese kaiju superhero film directed by Shinji Higuchi and written, co-produced and co-edited by Hideaki Anno. A reimagining of Ultraman, the film is a co-production between Toho Studios and Cine Bazar, and presented by Tsuburaya Productions, Toho Co., Ltd, and Khara, Inc. It is the 37th film in the Ultraman franchise, and the second reboot of a tokusatsu series to be adapted by Anno and Higuchi, after Shin Godzilla, with Shin Kamen Rider to follow in 2023. The film stars Takumi Saitoh, Masami Nagasawa, Daiki Arioka, Akari Hayami, Tetsushi Tanaka and Hidetoshi Nishijima, with Anno and Bin Furuya as Ultraman. In the film, an alien accidentally kills a man while fighting a kaiju and takes his appearance and place in the SSSP to protect the Earth from further threats. This exceptional evening around the third part of the project "Shin japan heroes universe" initiated by Hideaki Anno and which revisits, after Shin Godzilla and Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: thrice upon a time, the great figures of the Japanese science fiction promises to be one of the highlights of this festival.

The PIFFF has always been keen to present the most promising works of tomorrow's fantasy cinema. These young creators will be surrounded this year by veterans of the genre (Ryûhei Kitamura, Neil Marshall) and regulars of the festival (Benson & Moorhead, Lucile Hadzihalilovic, Kurtis David Harder).

A section officially dedicated to films that go beyond the formal fantasy framework but never cease to surprise with their narration, visual treatment or theme - as we were able to initiate in previous years with the screenings of Jallikattu, Bodied or Nightcall.

This 2022 edition will also be the occasion to celebrate the half-century of the cult reference magazine of the genre: Mad Movies! With a dedicated program, we'll tell you more soon... The rest of the program in a few weeks... Be patient. Meanwhile, the pass is already on sale on the official website : https://www.pifff.fr/pass-fr
