Music - Soan : a return to the forefront with a new album and a tour

By Mulder, 01 october 2022

Soan has been touring France for almost 25 years. Armed with his guitar, his harmonica and his atypical and recognizable voice, he sings and plays and imposes himself as an artist to discover on stage... Known tunes that inspired him, written by artists he met or would have liked to meet, but also his own texts. 25 years of TV shows in small clubs, of private concerts in big stages that this artist traces his road for the biggest pleasure of his numerous fans. 25 years of pure poetry, but also of intimate texts, sometimes hard, other melancholic or engaged voices. Words that will make you smile, bring tears to your eyes or make your fist stand up.

At the age of twenty-seven, Soan participated in the Paris castings of the seventh edition of the Nouvelle Star because his musical career, according to him, was faltering. The jury accepted him for the next stage, however his performance was not broadcast. His performance at the second stage was broadcast very briefly as for the next stage of the trios where he performed Dis-moi by BB Brunes with two other candidates including Yoann (who finished 10th in the show). All three miss their performance, in their opinion as well as in the opinion of the jury. Soan goes on to the next stage after a final draft. On the March 31, 2009 show on M6, Philippe Manœuvre confided in him that with his "closed voice and bad articulation, he was quite indispensable to the show, thus announcing his qualification for the first prime among the last fifteen participants. As the show progressed, he won a majority of blue votes from the jury but received a number of red votes towards the end of the show, particularly in the semi-final, where none of his three songs brought him four blue votes. Sinclair criticized him on several occasions for being too focused on playing a character when he sings, and for not focusing enough on his vocal performance. On June 9, 2009, he became the Nouvelle Star 2009 by being elected by the public against Leila. Soan is therefore an outsider, who revealed himself during the premiums and who forged a strong character, which pleased the public who elected him.

He opened for Jean Corti on June 22, 2009 at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, in Paris, and participated in the Nouvelle Star 2009 tour with the other four final candidates of the season from June 20 to October 10, 2009. His first album, Tant pis was released on November 27, 2009. On June 9, 2010, he was invited to the semi-final of the Nouvelle Star 2010 to present his album. He performs the title Séquelles. Soan is invited to the show of Laurent Ruquier, On n'est pas couché. On January 18, 2012, Soan officially announced the release of his second album, Sous les yeux de Sophie, a tribute to Sophie, his deceased friend. The album was released on March 26, 2012, preceded by a series of seven videos posted on YouTube, each bearing the name of a song from the album. It contains 14 tracks, including Pour de Bon and Dam Didam, on which Jean Corti, Jacques Brel's former accordionist, participates. In the single À tire d'aile, the singer Melissmell participates. The first song, S'il y a du monde, features an appearance by Christian Olivier, lead singer of Les Têtes Raides. About 14,000 copies of the album were sold in 2012.

In June 2013, Soan announced the release of his third album, Sens interdits for October4. His first single is Me laisse pas seul, a duet with La Demoiselle inconnue. In 2015, having left Sony Music to join the label Note a Bene5, Soan launched a participatory financing on KissKissBankBank for his 4th album and a live DVD. The necessary amount was raised in less than 24 hours6. His new album Retourné vivre will be released on May 6, 2016 and Soan will perform, among other things, on the stage of La Cigale on May 25, 2016.7 Since August 2016, Soan has launched once again into participatory financing on Ulule for his 5th album. In December 2016, he released his 5th album, Celui qui aboie, composed of twelve tracks and a cover of Nino Ferrer. The new album Négligé Chic will be released on the label M&O Music, in stores and digital, on 14 Oct 2022 . The mix of the album was done in the NOFX studios in Los Angeles by the excellent Baz The Frenchman and mastered by Marc Latour of Aum Productions.
