Toys - Marvel Select Toys : Let’s take a look on the Loki Collector Figure

By Mulder, 23 march 2022

With the new Loki TV show on Disney+, the Asgardian trickster and brother of Thor is back at the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! To celebrate, Diamond Select Toys and the shopDisney.com have teamed up to create the ultimate Loki action figure.

Loki is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. While the character first appeared in Venus #6 (Aug. 1949), the characterization that has persisted to the modern day, created by writer Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller Jack Kirby, first appeared in Journey into Mystery #85 (Oct. 1962). The character, which is based on the Norse deity of the same name, is the Asgardian "God of Mischief", the adopted son of Odin and the adoptive brother of the superhero Thor. Loki has been portrayed as both a supervillain and antihero.

Loki has appeared in several ongoing series, limited series and alternate reality series, including the 4-issue series Loki in 2004 and 2006, being the main character of Journey into Mystery from issues 622 to 645, appearing in new issues of Young Avengers in 2013 and receiving three more solo series, Loki: Agent of Asgard in 2013, Vote Loki in 2016 and Loki in 2019. The character has also appeared in associated Marvel merchandise including animated television series, films, video games, clothing, and toys. Tom Hiddleston plays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and portraying alternate timeline versions of the character in Avengers: Endgame (2019) and the series Loki (2021) and What If...? (2021). In 2009, Loki was ranked as IGN's eighth-greatest comic book villain of all time and in 2014 was ranked again by IGN, this time as the fourth-greatest comic book villain of all time.

Measuring 7 inches tall, this comic-based Marvel Select action figure of Loki depicts him in his modern-day outfit, and features a removable coat with interchangeable arms. He can carry a sword or his scepter, and a dagger fits into the sheath on his belt. It features 16 points of articulation.

As a bonus, the figure includes a 5-inch, non-poseable figurine of Kid Loki, a younger incarnation of Loki that took his place in the comics for a large part of the last decade. Both figures were hand-sculpted by Jean St. Jean based on designs by Eamon O’Donoghue.

Loki is available now from shopDisney.com and U.S. Disney Stores. They come packaged in a Select action figure package with side-panel artwork for shelf reference. This figure joins past Disney Store exclusive Marvel Select action figures, including Falcon as Captain America, the Winter Soldier, Captain Marvel, Thanos, Carnage and more.

Once again Diamond Select Toys offers us a superb figure perfectly mastered and which benefits not only from many articulations (toy photographers will appreciate) but also many accessories. The Marvel character is perfectly respected and all the readers of comics and movies from the Marvel cinematographic universe will appreciate the care given to this one.  The only dilemma we may encounter is whether we prefer to keep this superb collector figure in its box or open it and display it in the window or in its dedicated collector's room...
