Toys - Marvel Select Toys : Let’s take a look on the Doctor Strange Collector Figure

By Mulder, 20 march 2022

Diamond Select Toys have released in 2016 a Dr. Strange Marvel Select figure that is still only available at the Disney store shops. The figure is priced at $24.95 and includes diorama base, interchangeable heads, spell casting effects and more. Here’s the info from Diamond Select Toys:

This exclusive variant figure of Doctor Strange depicts him in his mysterious masked superhero appearance, first seen in 1968’s Doctor Strange #177. The figure stands approximately 7 inches tall with 16 points of articulation, allowing him to strike a wide variety of dimension-shattering poses. Accessories include a removable cape, a separate Eye of Agamotto medallion on a chain, a spell-casting energy effect that attaches to his hand, and an interchangeable unmasked head. Also included is an 8-inch tall, 3-inch wide diorama piece inspired by the interior of Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum in New York’s Greenwich Village, with a translucent stained-glass window and smoke effects.

Doctor Stephen Strange is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Steve Ditko with Stan Lee, the character first appeared in Strange Tales #110 (cover-dated July 1963). Doctor Strange serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Strange was created during the Silver Age of Comic Books to bring a different kind of character and themes of mysticism to Marvel Comics.

The character begins as an extremely talented but egotistical surgeon who loses the ability to operate, after a car crash severely damaged his hands beyond repair. Searching the globe for healing, he encounters the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme. Strange becomes his student, and learns to be a master of both the mystical and the martial arts. He acquires an assortment of mystical objects, including the powerful Eye of Agamotto and Cloak of Levitation, and takes up residence in a mansion referred to as the Sanctum Sanctorum, located in 177A Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village, New York City. Strange assumes the title of Sorcerer Supreme and, with his friend and valet Wong, defends the world from mystical threats.

In live-action adaptations, the character was first portrayed by Peter Hooten in the 1978 television film Dr. Strange. Since 2016, Benedict Cumberbatch has portrayed Stephen Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Once again Diamond Select Toys offers us a superb figure perfectly mastered and which benefits not only from many articulations (toy photographers will appreciate) but also many accessories. The Marvel character is perfectly respected and all the readers of comics and movies from the Marvel cinematographic universe will appreciate the care given to this one.  The only dilemma we may encounter is whether we prefer to keep this superb collector figure in its box or open it and display it in the window or in its dedicated collector's room...
