Disneyland - Avengers Campus: The Quinjet has landed and heralds the start of a new chapter

By Mulder, 27 january 2022

Last night, the next phase of the Avengers Initiative began with the arrival of their famous ship, the Quinjet, at Disneyland Paris. This is one step closer to the opening of our new Avengers Campus, which will be held right here in the destination.

The Walt Disney Imagineering and Marvel teams have already successfully brought Avengers Campus to life in California and the Stark Expo at Hong Kong Disneyland. They are thrilled to now be a part of Tony Stark's vision to build more heroes for the future! It's only been a few hours since the Quinjet landed at Disneyland Paris, but we couldn't be more excited about what's to come when Avengers Campus opens this summer!

Just like in Hong Kong and California, visitors to Disneyland Paris will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the Super Heroes through new immersive techniques as the Avengers and their allies recruit new heroes to join their team.  And with the Quinjet now sitting atop the central plaza of the Campus, this new heroic zone has never been closer to becoming real.

As Marvel Global Portfolio Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, Scot Drake, Creative Director, Marvel Global Portfolio wanted to share an exclusive glimpse of this major breakthrough, through a video that was recorded during this epic landing. He also wanted to take this opportunity to salute the diverse talent that allowed this exceptional ship to spread its wings and fly over Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Paris: to the Imagineers, Marvel Studios and the partners on the Entertainment teams, as well as the European team at UK Loco, who helped bring this creative vision to life.

When the Imagineers began to envision Avengers Campus, they immediately thought of creating an impressive centerpiece that would put visitors right in the middle of the action, encouraging them to awaken their inner superhero. They also looked for a symbol that would unite the various campuses, and the Quinjet quickly became the obvious choice, as it is the most iconic piece of technological equipment used by the Avengers to bring together Super Heroes from around the world.

Originally designed to serve as the cutting-edge aerial transportation for the Super Hero Team, the Quinjet's design has undergone various modifications in the Marvel comics and movies that make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, for this version of Avengers Campus, engineers wanted to give it an ambitious and futuristic look. Walt Disney Imagineering came up with this brand new design. However, in order to build a full-scale ship, they needed the help of engineers. They therefore teamed up with the British company UK Loco, with whom Walt Disney Imagineering Paris has been collaborating for many years and has a relationship of trust. UK Loco has provided unparalleled technical expertise in the creation of immersive experiences such as Toy Story Playland, Crush's Coaster and Ratatouille: Remy's Crazy Adventure.

When the engineers met with the UK Loco team at their workshop in Evesham, England, following numerous meetings on Zoom and exchanges with the transatlantic teams about the Quinjet 3D model, they were immediately convinced by the team's technical expertise, their attention to detail, and above all, their ability to think outside the box and find innovative solutions. These qualities proved to be essential in serving this creative vision; that of a Quinjet that represents a source of inspiration in an era marked by the pandemic. Watching the Quinjet come to life from the initial brainstorming, through sketches and digital models, to the construction of this iconic centerpiece is incredibly moving, and inspires us all to continue to do our best.

With this new Quinjet, engineers are looking to take the Avengers into a new era, where we are invited to step in and be part of an even more intense experience alongside the Super Hero Team. Disneyland Paris is now looking forward to welcoming the first recruits and bringing them together in this beautiful Avengers Campus, which will open later this year
