Prime Video announced today that the Amazon Original film The Green Knight will be released in France on January 3, 2022. Visionary filmmaker David Lowery offers a bold, modern take on the classic tale of the Knights of the Round Table. The cast includes Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Ralph Ineson. The Green Knight is produced by Sailor Bear, BRON Studios, A24, Creative Wealth Media Finance, Ley Line Entertainment, and Wild Atlantic Pictures.

The Green Knight is a 2021 medieval fantasy epic film directed, written, edited and produced by David Lowery, adapted from the 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The film stars Dev Patel as Gawain, a nephew of King Arthur, who embarks on a journey to test his courage and confront the Green Knight.

David Lowery describes the film as being about the importance of behaving with integrity and kindness rather than worrying about one's heritage. Although the question of Gawain's ultimate fate is left intentionally ambiguous, David Lowery said he wanted the possibility of Gawain being beheaded to be "a positive thing. He faces his fate with courage, and there's honor and integrity in that. But that doesn't mean he's dead, he's killed. He's dealt the blow that was dealt to him, and everything is back to normal in the world of the film. "The film also deals with the conflict between humanity and nature. David Lowery said that the monologue of Lady Bertilak, played by Alicia Vikander, reflects both the symbolism of conservative Christian Arthurian civilization in conflict with paganism and nature, and her own sense that, inevitably, nature will prevail over civilization and bring peace. The depiction of the Green Knight as an arboreal entity also illustrates the nature and paganism that pervades the drab sanctuary of the Round Table and Arthur's kingdom, which is further emphasized by David Lowery's decision to depict Arthur and Guinevere as sickly, alluding to the declining control of the civilization they represent.

The Green Knight was released in theaters in the United States on July 30, 2021, by A24. The film has received critical and audience acclaim for its cinematography, music, acting, production values and Lowrey's originality, direction and writing. It grossed over $18 million on a $15 million budget.

The Green Knight will join the thousands of series and movies available in the Prime Video catalog, such as Jack Ryan, Good Omens, Star Trek: Picard, Carnival Row, American Gods, The Boys, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, as well as French Amazon Originals such as Celebrity Hunted: Chasse à l'Homme, True Story Avec, LOL: Qui rit, sort!, Le Bal des Folles, Mixed, and Flashback, all of which will be available on Prime Video at no extra cost to Amazon Prime subscribers.
