Disney+ - SharePlay now available for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad users

By Mulder, 22 december 2021

With the new update to the Disney+ SharePlay app, subscribers with an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV have an additional way to get together with friends and family to watch Disney+ content in sync during a FaceTime call.

The Disney+ SharePlay experience is available worldwide on all of the platform's content (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, etc.), Pixar Studios' animated film LUCA, new releases like Marvel Studios' "Hawkeye," "Welcome to Earth" and upcoming Disney+ releases including "The Book of Boba Fett" (December 29).

"We're excited to bring SharePlay on Disney+ to Apple users this holiday season, and ahead of several highly anticipated new releases," said Jerrell Jimerson, assistant general manager of product and creative for Disney Streaming. "With thousands of movies and shows, a growing catalog of content, and new original productions, SharePlay offers an additional opportunity for you to gather with family and friends to create new memories with your favorite stories on Disney+, worldwide."

SharePlay sessions can accommodate up to 32 people and allow each participant in a FaceTime call to choose the audio version and subtitle track of the content being viewed. Viewers who prefer a larger screen can also enjoy the synced content on their Apple TV, while sharing the moment with friends and family on FaceTime via their iPhone or iPad.

SharePlay on Disney+ is available to Apple TV, iPhone and iPad users in all regions where the streaming service is available. All session users must be Disney+ subscribers and have devices running tvOS 15.1, iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1, or newer versions. GroupWatch, the group viewing feature of the Disney+ app, will continue to be available worldwide for subscribers residing in the same country, on all compatible devices and operating systems.

*The content available will vary by region.
