Last night saw the unveiling of the highly anticipated second trailer for Jon Watts' fourth film in Phase 4 of the MCU, starring Tom Holland in the title role.
After Spider-Man : Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), this is the third time Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a solo movie. He was of course seen alongside the Avengers in Captain America - Civil War (2016), Avengers - Infinity War (2018) and Avengers - Endgame (2018).
It's easy to lose count with all the Marvel movies released since 2008, since the first Iron Man, but Spider-Man No Return is (already!) the 27th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all phases combined.
If the last trailer doesn't confirm or deny the presence of Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield in the credits, we now know that the villains of the previous movies will make their comeback (Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman and the Green Goblin). It's a certainty after the trailer but also the latest poster.
Synopsis
For the first time in Spider-Man's cinematic history, the identity of the cool neighborhood hero is revealed, and his superhero responsibilities conflict with his personal life, putting his loved ones in danger. When he asks Doctor Strange for help in setting things right and keeping his secret, the spell opens a rift in their world, unleashing the most powerful villains to ever fight a Spider-Man in any universe. Now Peter faces his greatest challenge yet, one that will alter not only his future, but that of the multiverse.
