AppleTV+ - Invasion : We discovered the first three episodes

By Mulder, 20 october 2021

We had the chance to discover the first five episodes of the new Apple TV+ series Invasion. This new 10-episode sci-fi drama series created by Oscar and Emmy nominated Simon Kinberg (X-Men films, Deadpool movies, The Martian) and David Weil (Hunters).  The wide-ranging, character-driven series, directed by Emmy-nominated Jakob Verbruggen (The Alienist, The Fall), will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes on October 22, 2021, followed by new episodes every week, every Friday.

The series takes place on multiple continents and follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. The cast includes Shamier Anderson (Bruised, Awake), Golshifteh Farahani (Extraction, Paterson, Body of Lies), Sam Neill (Jurassic World: Dominion, Peaky Blinders), Firas Nassar (Fauda) and Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2, The Outsider) and Billy Barratt (Mary Poppins Returns). Produced by Boat Rocker Studios, Invasion is written and produced by Simon Kinberg and Weil. In addition to directing, Verbruggen is executive producing. Audrey Chon, Amy Kaufman and Elisa Ellis are executive producers alongside Andrew Baldwin, who also writes. Katie O'Connell Marsh is executive producer for Boat Rocker Studios.

Alien invasions are a recurring theme in film, television and many books, so writers Simon Kinberg and David Weil had to come up with something new that would meet the specifications of major American series. Their clever approach is not to propose a new science-fiction series full of outrageous special effects. On the contrary, their approach is to focus on how several people are confronted with forces beyond their control. The Invasion series takes place over ten episodes, the plot allows to take place in different countries and to propose a multitude of characters, the two most important of which are held by the actresses Shioli Kutsuna .

Shot in the United States, the United Kingdom, Morocco and Japan, Invasion benefits from a very imposing budget and this is easily felt on screen with numerous special effects, a cast worthy of a blockbuster and above all an undeniable desire to propose another approach than that of War of the Worlds and Independence Day. Much more focused on human beings and the upheaval of many lives than on imposing scenes of destruction of world famous buildings.

The three episodes proposed from this day will be :
- Episode 1 (Last Day): All over the world, strange and inexplicable events start to happen. The sheriff of a small town feels that something bigger is at stake.
- Episode 2 (Crash): In the midst of chaos, Aneesha makes a difficult decision for the sake of her family. Trevante, a Navy SEAL, investigates a distress call with his team.
- Episode 3 (Orion): Mitsuki takes desperate measures, determined to uncover the truth. Caspar and Jamila discover the gravity of their situation.
