Festivals - FCAD 2021 : A window on the French cinema

By Mulder, 25 may 2021

We are pleased to release the first press release of the American film festival which will be held as every year in Deauville.

"70 American films, 5 French films never seen before and in previews, the festival opens a window on French cinema

Since its creation in 1975, the American Film Festival, by its anchorage in Deauville, has affirmed the idea of a bridge between the two founding nations of cinema; a spirit that continues today. France has a special and historic character for Americans, from Lafayette to the D-Day landing beaches. Mindful of this memory, the Deauville Festival has always created bridges between France and the United States, following in the footsteps of the pioneer Alice Guy: the competition for independent auteur films, watched by French juries, the current edition's prize, awarded to a French filmmaker working in the United States, the themes of the Franco-American encounters, and the d'Ornano-Valenti prize, which crowns a first French film by American journalists.

Both the film screenings and the meetings with the crews at the 2020 edition were very popular with the public. This success of the happy cohabitation of American films and French works, accompanied by talent and organized under extremely restrictive sanitary conditions, marks a turning point in the history of the festival. It will thus extend the beautiful spirit of Deauville by opening a window on French cinema, through a selection of previously unreleased films, which will be added to the 70 American films presented each year. Taking note of this desire of the public and the profession, the festival has taken an important step and continues to evolve by consolidating its foundations, by affirming the freedom of an art without borders that ennobles itself in otherness. This is perhaps the world after... "Bruno Barde Festival Director
