Disney+ - 22 VS earth : an irresistible short film

By Mulder, 29 april 2021

Did you ever wonder what 22 could possibly have against Earth when you discovered it in the recent Oscar-winning animated film Soul? In this never-before-seen Pixar Studios short 22 VS Earth, available April 30 on Disney+, we find 22, the sarcastic, quick-witted soul to whom Camille Cottin lends her voice once again in the French version before she meets Joe Gardner. In this short film, 22 defies all the rules of the Big Forward and refuses to go to Earth, recruiting five young souls to foment a rebellion. But the actions of 22 and his gang have unexpected effects and the insurrection ends with a surprising revelation about the meaning of life. Directed by Kevin Nolting and produced by Lourdes Alba 22 vs. Earth is available exclusively on Disney+ starting April 30, 2021.

We had the chance to discover this seven-minute short film yesterday and we were totally conquered by its atmosphere reminding us of the masterful animated film Soul by Pete Docter discovered last December 7 and which recently won two Oscars (best animated film and best original score). In this short film which takes place before the film Soul, we find the soul 22 (Tina Fey again lends her voice to this one) who seems not to want to go to ground and sets up here a small band to rebel against the organization of the Big Front.

Kevin Nolting who had worked as an editor on multiple films such as Child's play (1988), Child's Play 2 (1990), (The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) , Finding Nemo (2003), Cars (2006), WALL-E (2008), Monsters University (2013), Toy Story 4 (2019) and Soul (2020), is making his second short film here after Once Upon a Time in the West Oakland (2014). 22 against the Earth (22 VS Earth) imposes itself by its sustained rhythm, its perfect animation and especially a way to extend to our great pleasure the film soul.
