Nat-Geo - Discover the Planet Possible program

By Mulder, 22 april 2021

This year, on Earth Day, National Geographic is announcing the launch of "Planet Possible," an initiative aimed at empowering us to reduce our environmental impact.

"Our Planet Possible initiative is designed to inform and encourage consumers to take advantage of the scientific and environmental advances of the past year through articles, products and experiences that will lead them to discover what they can do to preserve our planet. "

A truly global event, Earth Day brings together more than one billion participants each year in what has become the world's largest day of civic action. This year, at a time when the world has been rocked by the COVID-19 pandemic, National Geographic is launching "Planet Possible," a multi-platform, multi-year initiative to help consumers build on the scientific and environmental advances of the past year while empowering them to reduce their environmental impact.
"The past year has transformed our perception of what is possible, we've seen a new vaccine against an unknown disease developed and deployed at an unprecedented rate, CO2 emissions have dropped dramatically, and some vulnerable wildlife populations are showing signs of recovery. As the world's population struggled with the pandemic, millions of people found refuge in the great outdoors and reconnected with nature," said Gary Knell, president of National Geographic Partners.

"We look forward to building on this momentum with 'Planet Possible,' inviting consumers to understand the threats facing our planet and imagine new possibilities. "National Geographic's unparalleled repertoire of content, products and experiences, along with the groundbreaking work led by the National Geographic Society, are setting the stage for this new initiative that will help audiences explore our world, share its beauty and discover what can be done to preserve our planet. "
Through "Planet Possible," National Geographic wants to reach out to every environmentally conscious consumer everywhere, reaffirming its commitment to inspiring consumers this Earth Day and every day thereafter.

Coinciding with Earth Day, the Disney+ originals series "Secrets of the Whales" will be available on Disney+ starting April 22. Produced by National Geographic explorer and Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron, and narrated by actress and environmentalist Sigourney Weaver, the series takes viewers deep into the whale kingdom to discover their incredible communication patterns and complex social structure. For its launch, Planet Possible will bring together a variety of National Geographic content:

A Planet Possible platform (https://www.nationalgeographic.fr/planet-possible) on which National Geographic articles will be published, focusing on environmental solutions, the work of change-makers around the world, and consumer awareness of more sustainable living, among other topics. Among the first articles available will be 26 ways to reduce your environmental impact. The platform will also feature a virtual concert celebrating the Earth through music and filmed in the wilderness with Angélique Kidjo, AURORA, José González, Maggie Rogers, Rostam, Valerie June, Willie Nelson, Yo-Yo Ma and Ziggy Marley, as well as the world premiere of the new My Morning Jacket music video.

National Geographic Originals: a key element of the Planet Possible initiative will be to showcase National Geographic content, such as some of the brand's historic natural history programs, to allow fans to see the world like never before. .

The May 2021 issue of National Geographic magazine, "The Magic of the Oceans" is a special issue dedicated to the world's oceans, with a cover featuring National Geographic explorer and photographer Brian Skerry's ambitious Whale Secrets project. For the first time, the magazine provides practical tips alongside each article, inviting readers to make small changes in their habits and discover the impact of these changes on the preservation of the planet.

The brand is also inviting social media users to take part in the exciting Share Your Spot campaign, which aims to unite the global National Geographic community around a shared love for the Earth. Also launched on Earth Day, the campaign will encourage users to share the natural spot in which they find joy, hope and optimism by submitting their photos under the hashtag #ShareYourSpot so the world can show its love for the planet.
