It marks the second zombie film directed by Snyder following his 2004 directorial debut, Dawn of the Dead. The filmmaker also serves as co-screenwriter with Shay Hatten, based on the story treatment by Snyder and Joby Harold. Synopsis :
Army of the Dead begins after a zombie attack that has turned Las Vegas into a wasteland, now isolated from the rest of the world. Ex-hero of this zombie war, Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) had to move and now works in a fast food restaurant in the suburbs. One day, he is approached by casino owner Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada), who makes him a golden proposition: infiltrate the zombie-infested quarantine zone and retrieve $200 million hidden in a vault under the Strip, before the government destroys Vegas with a nuclear bomb in 32 hours. Motivated by this unexpected windfall that could help him reconcile with his daughter Kate (Ella Purnell), Scott accepts the challenge and assembles a motley crew of heist experts: Maria Cruz (Ana de la Reguera), an old friend of his and a genius mechanic, Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick), a zombie-killing machine, Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro), a cynical chopper pilot, Mikey Guzman (Raúl Castillo), a hotheaded influencer, Chambers (Samantha Win), a deceiver, Martin (Garret Dillahunt), the casino's head of security, Coyote (Nora Arnezeder), a tough-girl warrior who recruits Burt Cummings (Theo Rossi), a smooth-talking security guard, and finally, Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), a safecracker genius. Ward must also deal with his emotions when he learns that Kate has joined the expedition so she can search for Geeta (Huma Qureshi), a mother who has gone missing in the city. Between a notoriously impenetrable vault, a life-and-death race against time, and a horde of fast, devious Alphas zombies, only one thing is certain about the biggest heist of all time: the survivors will win.
