Shudder - Creepshow Season 2 : what a great beginning

By Mulder, 30 march 2021

Season two of Shudder’s record-breaking anthology series Creepshow, executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), premieres Thursday, April 1, exclusively on Shudder in all its territories, as well as via the Shudder offering within the AMC+ bundle. Creepshow, the highly-anticipated anthology series based on the 1982 horror comedy classic, is still the most fun you’ll ever have being scared! A comic book comes to life in a series of vignettes, exploring terrors ranging from murder, creatures, monsters, and delusions to the supernatural and unexplainable. You never know what will be on the next page…

Creepshow is an american horror anthology streaming television series that was released on Shudder in 2019. A continuation of the first two films in the Creepshow franchise (Creepshow and Creepshow 2), the first season series featured six episodes with two horror stories per episode. On October 30, 2020, an animated special titled A Creepshow Animated Special was released. On November 10, 2020, an holiday special titled A Creepshow Holiday Special had been diffused on December 18, 2020 (you can read our review on our media). The second season is scheduled to premiere tomorrow and we had the luck to discover the first two episodes some days before the season 2 premieres.

This season will feature Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser), Keith David (Greenleaf), Ryan Kwanten (Sacred Lies, True Blood), Breckin Meyer (Franklin & Bash), Eric Edelstein (Twin Peaks), Barbara Crampton (Reborn), C Thomas Howell (The Terror), Iman Benson (#BlackAF), Ted Raimi (Ash vs Evil Dead), Denise Crosby (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Kevin Dillon (Entourage) and others.

Creepshow is produced by the Cartel with Monster Agency Productions, Taurus Entertainment, and Striker Entertainment: Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, and Eric Woods are executive producers and Geoff Silverman and Anthony Fankhauser are co-executive producers for the Cartel; Nicotero and Brian Witten are executive producers and Julia Hobgood is a co-executive producer for Monster Agency Productions; Robert Dudelson, James Dudelson and Jordan Kizwani are executive producers for Taurus Entertainment; Russell Binder is executive producer and Marc Mostman co-executive producer for Striker Entertainment; Mitchell Galin is a producer.

For those who, like us, grew up with the first two films and are as passionate about movies as they are about comics of all kinds, the Creepshow series stands out as one of the best current horror series. While the cult series The Tales from the Crypt broadcasted on HBO from 1989 to 1996 has never left its mark on our memory, we finally find with Creepshow this same atmosphere and the joy of discovering two new episodes every week. The first season totally conquered us and we were waiting with a real impatience to discover this second one and we can say that the first two episodes (four distinct stories) directed by Greg Nicotero (Model kid, Public television of the dead, Pesticide) and Axelle Carolyn (Dead & breakfast) conquered us by their atmosphere, their successful special effects and by this way to find all the spirit of Creepshow.

Model kid shows us how an orphan child, passionate about old B movies, after the death of his mother from cancer is taken in by his uncle, a violent alcoholic, and decides to take revenge on him and his actions with the help of these toys (a mummy and a clone of the Creature from the Black Lagoon) that have grown in size and that he can control

Public television of the dead pays tribute to the Evil Dead universe with the famous book The Necronomicon and the presence of Ted Raimi (brother of the brilliant director Sam Raimi and creator of the Evil Dead universe). Spectacular special effects, a demonic atmosphere and a successful ending make this episode one of the best of Creepshow.

Dead & Breakfast shows us a strange guest house celebrating a deceased person who had been a real psychopath. Humor, caricature of the youtubers' sphere and striking scenes make all the success of this episode which rests on a successful scenario of Michael Rousselet and Erik Sandoval

Pesticide introduces us to a strange exterminator who is in charge of a rather special job that turns out to be his own trap. When the payoff is huge and his life is in real danger, is it really worth it?

These four stories have totally convinced us and we can't wait to discover the other episodes. We suspect that if our favorite writer Stephen King, who created Creepshow, watches this second season, he can only appreciate the fact that his universe created with George A. Romero is in perfect hands with Greg Nicotero who knew how to prolong this universe to our great pleasure.
