Serie - Superman & Lois : A very promising start to the series

"Superman: I'm here to fight for truth, and justice, and the American way.
- Lois Lane: You're gonna end up fighting every elected official in this country!" - Superman (1978)

Developed for The CW by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti and based on the characters of DC Comics' Superman and Lois Lane, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman & Lois easily establishes itself as one of the new American series as its first episode aired on February 23rd is more visually similar to an American blockbuster than a simple series formatted for American viewers. From the first images quickly telling us about Kal El's arrival on earth, his adolescence in Smallville, his arrival in Metropolis, his meeting with Lois Lane and how he becomes Superman the defender of the oppressed, we find all the atmosphere we can expect from a successful adaptation of the Superman universe. The first action scene in a nuclear plant shows us that the production did not skimp on the means to breathe new life into one of the most important and founding superheroes.

Based on the solid interpretation of Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent / Superman) and Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane) that their marriage gave birth to two seemingly powerless children, the action takes us to a time when these children became teenagers, Matha Kent died and Clark's family returned to Smallville to settle down. This successful extension of the universe set up in Richard Donner's film as well as that of the Arrowverse allows for a certain continuity with the other television series offered on the American channel The CW. While the Arrow series has come to an end, and we recently learned that the Supergirl series will end after the sixth season that will air in the United States in the spring of 2021, discovering this new series brings in this difficult period a huge asset.

Created in January 1933 by American screenwriter Jerry Siegel and Canadian cartoonist Joe Shuster, who first appeared in Action Comics #1 in June 1938, Superman established itself as a global cultural icon. The many comic books, numerous animated and live-action series and several successful films including Richard Donner's Superman (1978) and Man of Steel (2013) have ensured that this character has stood the test of time. It is also no coincidence that a new film produced by J.J. Abrams seems to materialize on the horizon with an African-American Superman (very surprising by the way because it is far from the spirit of the original Comics). While waiting for Zack Snyder's version of Justice League on March 18, Superman & Lois will be a real event not only because of the care taken in the script, the remarkable interpretations of Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, the photography worthy of current blockbusters but above all the spectacular special effects also worthy of the Warner Bros. films that have marked our memories.

Superman & Lois also brings a fresh look at the world of Superman by making him a father who not only has to balance his family life with the teenage problems of his two children, but also continues to save the world from various obscure forms like Lex Luthor who appears at the end of the first episode as he emerges from his exoskeleton after damning the pawn in a spectacular battle scene on earth, sky and space. After such a perfect first episode, we can already order liters of soda and popcorn because we are waiting for the next episodes of this series which will be one of the highlights of 2021...
