As part of the first American Television Critics Association Conference of the Year, Disney unveiled the trailer and first visuals for "The Mighty Ducks : Game Changers," a "Disney+ Original" series that will air starting Friday, March 26.
In 2018, Steven Brill and Jordan Kerner, who were respectively the writer and producer of the 1992 film The Mighty Ducks, proposed to Tracy Underwood, head of ABC Signature, an idea for a television series based on the film, which was approved for development. On January 22, 2018, it was reported that a half-hour television series entitled The Mighty Ducks was being developed by ABC Signature Studios, with Brill writing and producing the series, which was broadcast on several networks and streaming services by the studio.
On February 12, 2020, Goldsmith and Yuspa were revealed as co-creators and showrunners of the series, while Kerner and James Griffiths were revealed as executive co-producers of the series, with star Lauren Graham also credited as executive co-producer. It has also been announced that the series will consist of 10 episodes. In February 2020, Lauren Graham and Brady Noon were chosen for the lead roles in the series, with Emilio Estevez taking over the role of Gordon Bombay, in addition to executive production and directing one episode. Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda. Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O'Reilly, Maxwell Simkins, De'Jon Watts were also cast in undisclosed roles.
Directed by Michael Spiller and James Griffiths, "The Mighty Ducks : Game Changers" is produced by ABC Signature Studios, a subsidiary of Disney Television Studios. Steve Brill, creator, screenwriter and producer of the three films in the saga, is one of the creators and executive producers, along with Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham, and showrunners Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa (the series "Un gars du Queens", 30 years or nothing). George Heller and Brad Petrigala of Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Jon Avnet and Jordan Kerner are also producers of the series. Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O'Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham and DJ Watts round out the cast of the series, which will have ten episodes in its first season. Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Synopsis :
In Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have managed to form an ice hockey team as prestigious as it is competitive. In her ambition to use only the best, she ruthlessly gets rid of 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon), whom she doesn't consider worthy of her ranks. But the passion for the sport really drives the teenager. So he and his mother Alex (Lauren Graham) decide to form their own team, even if it's made up of broken arms.
