Pathe and Dimitri Rassam have just unveiled the cast of the films The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan and The Three Musketeers: Milady. These two feature films adapted from the work of Alexandre Dumas by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière are directed by Martin Bourboulon and are currently in preparation. The cast includes François Civil (D'Artagnan), Eva Green (Milady), Vincent Cassel (Athos), Romain Duris (Aramis) , Pio Marmaï (Porthos), Lyna Khoudri (Constance Bonacieux), Louis Garrel (Louis XIII) Vicky Krieps (Queen Anne of Austria), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Duke of Buckingham). Shooting will start in the summer of 2021. The two films will be shot simultaneously exclusively in France for a budget of 60 million euros.

The Three Musketeers is the most famous of Alexandre Dumas père's novels, initially published in serial form in the newspaper Le Siècle from March to July 1844, then published in volume from 1844 by Baudry and reissued in 1846 by J. B. Fellens and L. P. Dufour with illustrations by Vivant Beaucé. The novel recounts the adventures of an impecunious 18-year-old boy, d'Artagnan, who came to Paris to make a career in the corps of musketeers. He befriends Athos, Porthos and Aramis, musketeers of King Louis XIII. These four men will oppose the Prime Minister, Cardinal de Richelieu, and his agents, including the Count of Rochefort and the beautiful and mysterious Milady de Winter, to save the honor of the Queen of France Anne of Austria. With many fights and romantic twists and turns, The Three Musketeers is the typical example of the cloak-and-dagger novel, and the success of the novel was such that Dumas himself adapted it to the theater, and took up the four heroes in the rest of the trilogy. It was the subject of numerous adaptations for film and television.
