Audrey will be available on DVD as well as for digital purchase/rental. Produced by McQueen's BAFTA-nominated team, Audrey offers an intimate look at one of the biggest stars in fashion and Hollywood. This feature-length documentary reveals previously unseen images from her life, revealing the secrets of the woman behind the icon.
Between rare archival footage and exclusive interviews with her son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, former Givenchy Creative Director Clare Waight Keller, and Tiffany's design director emeritus, John Loring, the film brings to life an extraordinary woman who testifies to the power of love and forgiveness.
Audrey Hepburn won her first Academy Award at the age of 24 and has become one of the world's greatest cultural icons: a one-of-a-kind beauty and a legendary star of Hollywood's Golden Age, whose style and pioneering collaboration with Hubert de Givenchy continue to inspire. But who was the real Audrey Hepburn?
Badly treated as a child, abandoned by her father and having grown up under Nazi occupation in Holland, Hepburn has struggled all her life with the traumas of her past, which swept away her dreams of becoming a ballet dancer and disrupted her life. Despite this, she managed to find inner peace by using her superstar aura as a global ambassador for UNICEF, thus completing the circle of her life; first a victim of war, then a source of relief for millions of people in need.
Director Helena Coan says: "The film offers new and intimate interviews with those who knew her best, woven around rare archive footage. However, we wanted to go further and worked with multi-talented British choreographer Wayne McGregor CBE to create dance sequences inspired by Audrey's love of ballet, creating a seductive and touching portrait of her".
Three dancers play the role of Audrey at different stages of her life, including the Royal Ballet's principal dancer, Francesca Hayward (Cats), who plays the role of Audrey at the height of her fame in Hollywood, and Alessandra Ferri (one of 13 dancers to receive the title of "prima ballerina assoluta"), who plays the role of Audrey at the end of her life. The film also features Keira Moore in the role of "young Audrey", whom the production found thanks to a casting in ballet schools. Composer Alex Somers wrote original music inspired by the golden age of Hollywood composers who wrote the music for Audrey's films.
This film is a portrait of a woman who showed strength but also vulnerability and whose complexities, insecurities, challenges and subtleties made her a force of nature, whose presence is still felt around the world today.
