The production of “Red Latex” full-length film starts by the end of 2016, when the executive producer Eleonora Mattioli offers the director and screenwriter Gerard Marcó de Mas the possibility of shooting a fulllength film in a country house, situated in Arroyo Clé, Entre Ríos, Argentina. Taking advantage of this possibility, Gerard Marcó de Mas wrote a story that takes place in that country house, with a maximum of ten actors and calculating between ten and fifteen days to shoot it. Gerard Marcó de Mas finished writing the script titled “Red Latex” in January 2017. With the basis of this production, it was very likely to be able to carry out this project.
After some days, Gerard Marcó contacted the producer of Sewati Audiovisual, Maximiliano Zurraco. Gerard Marcó, Eleonora Mattioli and Maximiliano Zurraco joined together to shoot “Red Latex” in January 2018. They had a year of pre-production ahead. From that moment on, Gerard, as Director, would be in charge of casting the actors and organizing rehearsals. Eleonora, as owner of the country house, would become the Art Director and would be in charge of hosting the people during the shooting. Maximiliano, as Director of Production, would be in charge of setting up a technical team, organizing the suppliers, making a production calendar and obtaining everything that was needed to be able to shoot on the expected date. Among the three of them, they collected an amount of money that would allow them to shoot the film with a low budget.
Once the pre-production started, Maximiliano, thanks to former productions in which he had participated, was able to incorporate to the project the American film production company “Gaucho Entertainment” and the Uruguayan film production company “Wanton South”. The first one entered as investor and the second one contributed with technical support for the shooting. These two film production companies allowed the project to become an independent professional film rather than an amateur production, providing a RED ONE 4k camera, better lighting and sound equipment, and a larger teamwork.
After increasing the level of production, Maximiliano, Eleonora and Gerard were able to close the cast, organize the location and the technical team. Maximiliano was able to close everything connected to technical material, transport and diets. Eleonora was able to finish decorating and setting up the country house for the shooting, preparing the costumes, make-up and hairdressing. Gerard got the cast and started the rehearsals.
This is how the year 2017 went by, until the first day of shooting arrived: 14th January 2018. The shooting would be carried out by a team of 32 people, 10 actresses and actors and 22 members of the technical team. Thirteen days were considered for the shooting plan, the first three days in Buenos Aires, in an office in Palermo and in a flat in Belgrano; and ten days in Arroyo Clé, Entre Ríos. During the shooting, people from Arroyo Clé helped us. We were allowed to use the school in town as base camp for the technical team. The shooting went by without major incidents and we were able to comply with the expected shooting plan.
Once the shooting was over, in February 2018, we started with the editing process. The first editor that worked in the post production, Luca Castello, put the material in order and edited some scenes. In June 2018, due to the incompatibility with other projects, Luca Castello abandoned the project and Juan Elena picked it up. Gerard Marcó and Juan Elena worked together in the edition from June 2018 onwards. In December 2018, Maximiliano Zurraco organized a screening in the “Ventana Sur 2018” market with a first edition of “Red Latex”. In that event, the English sales agency Jinga Films showed interest in commercializing the film. As the greater part of the post production was still missing, we decided to finish it by the beginning of the year 2020 with the idea of starting the distribution at that moment.
During 2019 Gerard and Juan continue working in the edition until they finished it in October. Once the editing was over, Gerard found funding to finish the post production. With this funding, he was able to hire the services of the “Bum! Audio” study to work on the sound edition, the effects and sound mixing. He also hired “Cinecolor Argentina” image study, to work on the conform edition, credits and the DPC for the feature and the trailer. With the last part of the post production starting, Gerard went back to the “Ventana Sur 2019” market and took up the contact with Jinga Films. Gerard and Jinga Films agreed on having the film finished by 15th February 2020 so that Jinga Films would be able to start commercializing it in the parallel market to the Berlin Festival 2020
