Zendaya and John David Washington share the poster for Malcolm & Marie, a moving romantic drama directed by Sam Levinson. Working with director Marcell Rév, Sam Levinson has created a work of rare originality, a declaration of love for the great Hollywood romantic dramas and the future of cinema.

In July 2020, it was announced that John David Washington and Zendaya had joined the cast of the film, with Sam Levinson directing from a script he wrote and completed in six days. The film was shot during the COVID-19 pandemic, from June 17 to July 2, when Levinson and Zendaya were both involved in HBO's Euphoria, whose production had been halted due to the pandemic. The entire shoot took place at Caterpillar House, a private home in Carmel, California. The film followed COVID-19's local safety protocols, including the quarantine of the entire cast and crew during filming, as well as two weeks before and after shooting, daily temperature checks and enhanced sanitation measures. The film was shot in black and white on 35 mm film.

In September 2020, Netflix acquired the distribution rights to the film for $30 million, bidding against companies such as HBO, A24 and Searchlight Pictures. The film is scheduled for release on February 5, 2021, following a theatrical release in selected theaters in January.

Synopsis :
After the preview screening of his latest film, a filmmaker (John David Washington) returns home with his girlfriend (Zendaya). While he is certain that his film will meet with critical and commercial success, the evening takes an unexpected turn: the two lovers have to face certain truths about their couple that test the strength of their feelings...
