Festivals - Gerardmer 2021 : Discover the program

By Mulder, 08 january 2021

"There were images in the world and today we are in the world of images, Günther Anders wrote this sentence in 1956 in his book on the obsolescence of man. The cinema in its artistic preoccupations joins this premonition. Is man obsolete in favor of a virtual silhouette? This question reminds us with the acuity of the day of the quarrel between iconoclasts and iconophiles over freedom and the accuracy of representation. The fantasy genre brings a massive yes to this question through its realization, the brush of incarnation. The intention that animates the image becomes more innovative than its materiality. All of Méliès' greatest filmmakers to date have successfully tackled Gérardmer's theme. Their realms of unreality plead for a beyond reason, a questioning more creative than understanding, giving birth to petals in the mind. Let us remember the proposed hapaxes that were the monolith of 2001, Stanley Kubrick's Space Odyssey or Fritz Lang's Robotic Venus in Metropolis. The festival intends to bear witness to this reflection in its online programming through the variety of films and themes chosen, mixing the science of the imaginary and the science of intimate realities, for the benefit of a rediscovered otherness and a rejected confinement. The viral ecology at the service of an economy of salvation makes this festival a step for the maintenance of art in the age of the image and awakens all sleepwalking ... The thrill is at this price " Bruno Barde - Director of the festival

This year will be different for all film enthusiasts. Movie theaters are closed in France and we don't really know when they will reopen except after the end of February. The Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival will therefore be virtual this year and spectators can already book their tickets by taking a pass or by showing them on the website: https://online.festival-gerardmer.com/.
