Netflix - Cobra Kai Season 3 : Netflix bring us the best season until now

By Mulder, 01 january 2021

Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy-drama streaming television series based on The Karate Kid film series created by Robert Mark Kamen. The television series was created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, and stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka (both of whom are reprising their roles from The Karate Kid, and who also serve as co-executive producers of the series) along with Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser and Peyton List.

Cobra Kai is set 34 years after the original Karate Kid film, re-examining the narrative from Johnny Lawrence's point of view, and his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo leading to the rekindling of his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso. The series launched on YouTube Red with the first two seasons being released in 2018 to 2019. In June 2020, Netflix acquired the series, and the third season released on January 1, 2021. In October 2020, the series was renewed for a fourth season ahead of the third season premiere.

We suspected that Netflix's acquisition of the Cobra Kai series was going to raise the excellent level of the first two seasons broadcast on Youtube Red by one step and after discovering it in one go yesterday we can say that the result exceeds our expectations.

This new season starts again two weeks after the fight at the school, the community of the valley is still shaken by the consequences of this fight, so the school has since implemented an anti-physical contact rule. Sam, still shaken by the fight, suffers from panic attacks, and the duel between the 2 dojos is still strong. Johnny, who wants to visit Miguel in the hospital, deliberately hurts himself so that he can sneak into the intensive care unit and say words of encouragement to Miguel. When Daniel discovers that Robby has stolen a van from the dealership, Daniel and Johnny team up to find it. On the first of ten new episodes the elements are in place. Johnny Lawrence must also abandon his dojo the Cobra Kai in opposition to his Sensei john Kreese while Daniel LaRusso's daughter Samantha LaRusso has not psychologically recovered from her confrontation with Tory (Peyton List).

As in the two previous seasons, Cobra Kai returns to the universe forged by the first three films of the cinematic saga and this third season finds itself the most nostalgic between a trip to Okinawa, the hometown of Daniel LaRusso's Miyagi in which he will see one of his former enemies Chozen but also see his former lover Kumiko again. It is the same for Johnny Lawrence who will meet his ex Ali (Elisabeth Shue) who is in town for the vacations to visit her parents. Those who like us grew up with Karate Kid will not only love this season but especially wait after seeing it in the fourth season.

The 30-minute format is perfectly suited to the rhythm of this series, which does not neglect the numerous action scenes and more dramatic moments while giving real depth to the characters. The result is a season full of excellent surprises that easily stands out as the best to date. One can imagine that Netflix allowed this series to benefit from a larger production budget while keeping intact the soul of this series launched by Youtube Red. We feel that the main actors take a real pleasure in bringing their characters to life to our great pleasure.
