Serie - The Accidental Wolf : Our review

By Mulder, 25 november 2020

The day before its broadcast on the Topic streaming platform, we discovered the mini-series The Accidental Wolf, written and directed by Arian Moayed. This mini-series is at the same time a psychological drama, a black thriller and the portrait of a woman confronted with events beyond her.

Katie Bonner lives an unexceptional life. Married to a successful attorney, she cares for their newborn, and quietly exists in her Manhattan penthouse. One night, Katie (played by the Tony Award® winning Kelli O'Hara) receives a call from an unknown number. On the other line, a distressed man fights for his survival as gunshots and explosions echo in the background. In his final moments, the caller pleads for the life of his pregnant and wounded wife, Tala. Deeply affected, Katie embarks on a journey to find her. Before too long, the mystery of the unknown caller and search for Tala threaten to cost Katie everything.

The Accidental Wolf is basically a web series dating from 2017 and composed of eleven short chapters. In the framework of its rerun on Topic, a new editing has been done to recompose it in four episodes of about twenty minutes each. This new force proves to be an excellent idea because it reinforces the paranoiac atmosphere of this one and especially shows again that the actress Kelli O'Hara (seen in the series Masters of Sex (2016), 13 Reasons Why (2018)) proves to excel in performances of women victims of events beyond her.

In spite of an interesting direction, one will regret the too static side of the four episodes and especially a blatant lack of action compared to more recent series.
