Amazon Studios announced today that it has ordered a sixth and final season of Amazon Original's fan favorite sci-fi series The Expanse, based on the best-selling books by James S.A. Corey. The announcement of The Expanse's renewal for one final season comes ahead of the fifth season, which will be available on December 16 on Amazon Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, co-presidents and co-founders of Alcon Television Group, and executive producers of The Expanse, said, "From the day we committed to bringing this series to life until this past season, we have worked tirelessly to be true to the vision of the writers. We are proud to have one of the most diverse castings available and to give a platform to stories that matter. Special thanks to Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the authors of the novels and series, as well as Naren Shankar, the showrunner of the series and its executive producer. It is always an honor and privilege to work with this team. We would also like to thank Amazon for their continued support in helping us tell this story to its best advantage and bring The Expanse to a global audience.

"The dedication and artistry of everyone involved in bringing The Expanse to the screen is incredible," said Naren Shankar, executive producer and showrunner of The Expanse. "Our fans are amazing and we can't wait to get season 6 underway! »

"We would like to thank Naren, Andrew, Broderick, everyone at Alcon and the entire team at The Expanse for their tireless work and affection they have brought to the series over the past few seasons," said Vernon Sanders, Co-Director of Television for Amazon Studios. "We're very pleased to be able to bring The Expanse's incredibly loyal and passionate fans to the conclusion they deserve for this series. We're sure they'll love seasons 5 and 6.

The Expanse is set in a future where humanity has colonized the solar system and the people of Earth, Mars and the asteroid belt have long been in opposition to each other. When the crew of the Rocinante discovers ancient alien technology, a vast conspiracy begins to emerge that will bring the solar system to the brink of war. The Expanse is a high-flying science fiction adventure that explores the depths of humanity in the vast expanses of our universe. The series is rooted in science fiction while at the same time exposing the vital societal issues of our time.

The Hugo Award-winning series is based on the best-selling science fiction novels of James S.A. Corey. It was developed and written by Oscar-nominated writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who are the producers of the series alongside Naren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Hivemind's Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck and Dan Nowak. Shankar is the showrunner of all seasons. The Expanse is produced by Alcon Television Group.

Amazon Prime Video announced in 2018 the fourth season of The Expanse, which airs worldwide as an Amazon Original series in December 2019. The highly anticipated fifth season of The Expanse will begin on December 16, 2020 with three episodes and will be followed by one episode per week until February 3, 2021.

Synopsis :
In the 23rd century, men colonized the solar system and the United Nations controls the Earth. Mars has become an independent military power and the other planets depend on the resources of the asteroid belt, where living conditions are harsh and the inhabitants forced to work hard. Over the years, tensions between Earth, Mars and the Belt have grown so high that a single spark could trigger a war. In this tense context, the disappearance of a young woman will lead the detective in charge of the case and the captain of a ship in a race across the solar system to uncover the biggest plot in the history of mankind.
