Black Beauty is an internationally co-produced dramatic film, written and directed by Ashley Avis, based on Anna Sewell's 1877 novel of the same name. It was announced in May 2019 that a new adaptation of Anna Sewell's novel was in development, with Ashley Avis writing and directing the film.

The trailer and poster for Black Beauty, a brand new Disney+ Original movie to be released on the platform on November 27th, were revealed today. Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet lends her voice to the mare Black Beauty in the original version while Mackenzie Foy, Iain Glen, Claire Forlani and Calam Lynch complete the cast.

Contemporary adaptation of the work of British novelist Anna Sewell - known in France as Black Prince (Black Beauty) - follows the adventures of a wild Mustang from the western United States. One day, captured and taken away from her family, she soon finds herself at the Birtwick Stables where she develops a loving, respectful and mutually supportive relationship with Jo Green (Mackenzie Foy), a 17-year-old girl who is also grieving the loss of her parents. As the weeks go by, this unbreakable bond will help Black Beauty keep hope alive through the different stages, trials and adventures of her life...

Shooting started in South Africa in October 2019 . In July 2020, Disney+ acquired the distribution rights for the film from Constantin Film. Black Beauty will be available from November 27, 2020 on Disney+.

Black Beauty is directed and written by Ashley Avis (Teenager). Jeremy Bolt (Polar, Monster Hunter) for JB Pictures and Robert Kulzer (Polar) for Constantin Film are the producers, while Martin Moszkowicz, Edward Winters and Jon Brown are executive producers. Dylan Tarason is one of the co-producers and Genevieve Hofmeyr (Mad Max: Fury Road), director of Moonlighting Films, the producer for South Africa.
