Prime-Video - Star Trek Picard : A great new series

By Mulder, 23 january 2020

Sir Patrick Stewart reprising the role, that I for one know and love him for, in CBS’ new show Star Trek: Picard, streaming on Amazon Prime. Picard takes place roughly 14 years after the hit movie Star Trek: Nemesis. Fans of the series will be happy to know that show favorites do make an appearance one such appearance is Data played by Brent Spiner. We will also be introduced to a host of brand-new talent and characters. Episode 1 will air January 2020.

We find our Captain Jean-Luc Picard in France with a new number one joining him in the vineyard. Along with number one Picard is surrounded by Klingons, Vulcans, and a melting pot of other species. We are introduced to a relocation event known as the Romulan Supernova and its subsequent involvement of Captain Picard as well as the fall out from the relocation effort imprisoning and banning all Synthetics from life as they went rogue and are the reason for such death during the relocation effort.

A young woman named Dahj arrives to the Picard Vineyard seeking guidance as she has had intuitions that she needed to be with him in order to be safe. She was attacked earlier by a band of unknown individuals stating during the initial assault that she has yet to “activate”. During her apprehension it seems that she activated as she was able to stop all of her assailants without much hassle.

Picard, haunted by recurring dreams with Lt. Cmdr. Data realizes that there must be a connection between Data, Dahj and himself goes to the Starfleet archives seeking answers. At the archives he learns of Data’s daughter. Dahj and Picard are reunited and is told the story of Data and how she is might be Data’s daughter. Dahj is not to keen on the idea of being the daughter of a synthetic due to what they did during the Romulan relocation mission.

The story is fast paced, and action packed. While not entirely elusive you will miss some key story elements and plot lines if you are not careful or watching this show as background to whatever you are doing. Pay close attention to what is going on the screen is all I can say. Do this and you do not need to be a “Trekie” in order to understand the story and fall into the universe that is Star Trek. CBS has commissioned 10 episodes at 45 minutes in length in order to tell a monumental story, one that we have all been waiting for. Picard not even airing yet, has already been approved for a second season. What adventures await out courageous Captain, and how does Data who died at the end of Nemesis fall into all of this? I for one cannot wait to continue to dive and explore this universe.
