By Felipe, 01 december 2019

Disney +, the newest streaming service to hit the market, has brought back undeniable nostalgia. I’m 30 years old and like many of today’s adults my Saturday mornings were spent watching Saturday morning cartoons. I can remember waking up at 7 am and then proceeding to wake up my brother and both of us going to the living room and turning on the television.

When I heard Disney was launching a streaming service at first I was unmoved. I felt that at this point between Hulu, Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime and the myriad of other streaming services that they were going to enter a saturated market. But as a signed up for the free 7 days trial and saw the shows they offered. Memories came rushing back. My brother and I sitting on the couch half asleep watching these shows. Parents asleep in their room and us eating cereal illuminated by the glow of the television. This feeling is one of the biggest appeals to me about Disney +, the nostalgia.

Disney + states they are going to continually update their streaming library. At time of this writing they offer some Disney Original Series, The Mandalorian, High School Musical the Series for example as well as classic Disney movies and TV Shows. Many movies from the Disney Vault are available to stream instantly. Documentaries are also plenty full thanks to the programming from National Geographic. Toy Story and UP are available thanks to the Pixar catalogue.

Disney + makes it easy to find your favorite shows or discover new ones. Their simple mobile interface is how I discover what to watch next and the ability to have profiles makes it so that our watch next list is never mixed. The main screen shows how the app divides the categories between their different properties Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

Navigation is even easier once you start watching and using the app it will start recommending series based off your previous watching habits. At 6.99 a month for the basic experience you are getting a lot. You receive access to the Disney catalogue as well as an add free viewing experience. This compared to Netflix’s $9 basic plan in the United States that only let’s you stream 1 screen at a time and is only standard definition or to Hulu’s $5.99 plan that is supported by adds is a great value whichever way you look at it.
