Convention - San Diego Comic-Con 2016 : Some new announcements

With under 2 months to go until SDCC kicks off, it's time for another recap of SDCC news. So lets go....and if you missed it, here are the previous news recaps (here a nd here)

Lets start with offsite news.

Kevin Smith is back with multiple offsite events. His Fatman on Batman podcast will be at American Comedy Company on the Thursday of SDCC at 8pm, and after that show ends he'll return to the stage with Jason Mewes for Jay and Silent Bob Get Old at 10pm that night. Kevin will then make one more appearance at American Comedy Company, on the Friday of SDCC he hits the stage with Ralph Garman for their Hollywood Babble-On. Tickets for all 3 showings are $30 USD each and available now.

For those of you who are fans of the 'Supernatural' TV show, the Wayward Cocktails event put on by the Supernatural Wiki (not an official page) will be back again this year. More details coming later (read here)

Baker Street Babes also have announced their SherlockeDCC event will be back again, more information coming from them later.

The Real Tampa Bay Ghostbusters will be back again for another party during SDCC. No information is available yet other then it will be at Werewolf (in the Gaslamp) the Friday of SDCC at 6pm.

Cute, Cute, Kawaii After Party will also take place the Friday of Comic-Con, tickets and more information available here

Super Video Game Land is returning to Mission Brewery again this year.

Heavy Metal band 'Slayer' will be performing the Thursday of SDCC at House of Blues. Unfortunately the show already sold out.

One of the more popular offsite venues/events officially announced they would be returning during Comic-Con again. NerdHQ will once again take over the New Children’s Museum near the convention center. No other information is available at this time in regards to guests, events and what not.

Funko Fundays will once again take place the Friday of Comic-Con at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Tickets are $120 (plus fees) and will go on sale on 6/1 at 12pm PST. 

Their will be an unofficial 'Wynonna Earp' meetup during Comic-Con, no other details are available yet.

Masked Republic announced that FCW (wrestling promoter) will be having not one, but 2 events during SDCC this year on the Friday and Saturday of Comic-Con.

Now for one of the biggest offsite events during Comic-Con.

Paramount and Comic-Con announced that the world premiere of 'Star Trek Beyond' will take place the Wednesday of Comic-Con (preview night) at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. The movie will play in the IMAX format and their will also be a red carpet and live concert performance of Academy Award winning composer Michael Giacchino’s film score by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. No word yet on how tickets to this event will be given out, but you can bet it will be one of the hottest tickets during SDCC.

Lets talk about onsite events and SDCC news now

The Eisner Awards have announced their full nominee list. You can see it here. The actual award show will take place the Friday of Comic-Con, time and location to be announced later.

Comic-Con also announced their 14th and 15th sets of special guests to wrap up those announcements. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Writer/producer, Afterlife with Archie, Riverdale), Ed McGuinness (Artist, Spider-Man/Deadpool) Ronald Wimberly (Designer/cartoonist, Prince of Cats, Sentences), William Gibson (Author, Neuromancer, Peripheral, Archangel), Scott Shaw! (Cartoonist, Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew!, Bart Simpson Comics), and last but not least....Stan 'The Man' Lee (needs no introduction). You can find the full special guest list here

Fox Studios (home to movie franchises such as X-Men, Wolverine, Maze Runner, among others) announced they would NOT be at Comic-Con this year due to piracy issues last year. "The studio feels it cannot prevent the piracy of custom trailers and exclusive footage routinely screened for fans in attendance.”

'Outlander' TV series also said they are skipping SDCC this year, much to the chagrin of many fans, due to many of the cast being otherwise engaged.
