Concert - Nell Mescal : Paris Concert first part of the Sigrid concert There's Always More That I Could Say Tour

By Mulder, Paris, Cabaret Sauvage, 11 march 2026

On Wednesday, March 11, our media outlet was at the Cabaret Sauvage in Paris to cover Sigrid's concert, who was there to promote her There's Always More That I Could Say Tour. However, the real surprise of the evening came from the opening act, young Irish artist Nell Mescal, who literally enchanted the audience with a short but particularly memorable performance. In the intimate setting of the Parc de la Villette marquee, the singer from Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland, performed seven songs, confirming the impression she had already made during her remarkable appearance at Rock en Seine 2024, and giving the distinct feeling that we were witnessing the debut of an artist who is set to make her mark on the indie pop/folk scene in the coming years.

The Cabaret Sauvage, a legendary venue built in 1997 and renovated in 2019, is no stranger to discoveries and memorable evenings, having hosted artists as diverse as Mac DeMarco, Mobb Deep, Mos Def, PJ Harvey, Redman, Rick Ross, and Tony Allen, and even served as the setting for Guillaume Gallienne's film Les Garçons et Guillaume, à table !, where it appeared transformed into a Spanish nightclub. It was in this historic venue that Nell Mescal delivered a set of seven songs, opening with Warm Body before moving on to Carried Away, Lose You All Together, Closest We'll Get, Kissing The Ground, See You Again, and Sweet Relief, a balanced selection of her early singles and more recent tracks from her latest EP.

Released on October 24, 2024, The Closest We'll Get marked an important milestone in Nell Mescal's career, confirming her talent for sensitive and melancholic indie pop that sometimes evokes the early compositions of Tate McRae or Lucy Dacus, a comparison already mentioned by NME magazine. The EP is a continuation of a journey that began very early on, with the singer starting to write at the age of 13, influenced by artists such as Birdy, Taylor Swift, Bon Iver, Finneas O'Connell, Orla Gartland, and Fleetwood Mac, whom her parents played for her when she was a child. Her personal journey has also shaped her music: a victim of bullying at school, she underwent surgery for scoliosis at the age of 14 and used her convalescence to devote more time to songwriting, before moving to Brighton at the age of 17 and then settling in London in 2021 to pursue her career full-time.

Her rise has been gradual, from the release of her first single, Crash, in 2020 with producer John Leader, to her first professional performances, notably as the opening act for Phoebe Bridgers in 2021 at Shoreditch House, then at major festivals such as The Great Escape, BST Hyde Park, Latitude Festival, Electric Picnic, and Boardmasters, not to mention her first tours in the UK and Ireland. Her fame was also boosted by the covers she posted on social media, which caught the attention of celebrities such as Jennifer Garner and James Bay, helping to establish her name with a wider audience.

Nell Mescal's appearance as the opening act for Sigrid was no coincidence, as the Norwegian singer is herself known for her collaborations with major artists on the alternative scene, notably Bring Me The Horizon on Bad Life and Griff on Head on Fire. This partnership on the 2026 tour gives the young Irish singer ideal exposure, and the reaction of the Parisian audience suggests that the gamble has already paid off. In an attentive and warm venue, each song was greeted with growing enthusiasm, proving that even in a short set, Nell Mescal already has the stage presence to transform an opening act into a truly memorable moment.

Leaving the concert, it was hard not to feel convinced that we had witnessed one of those debuts that we will remember years later, saying to ourselves that we were there. With her sincere songwriting, instantly recognizable voice, and ability to create an intimate connection with her audience, Nell Mescal confirmed in Paris what her first singles already hinted at: she is an artist on the rise, whose name is sure to appear frequently on festival lineups and concert posters in the years to come.
