From July 4 to 7, 2025, the Parc des Expositions in Villepinte was once again transformed into a sanctuary for all lovers of Japanese pop culture, welcoming thousands of visitors for the annual Japan Expo. Once again this year, the Cosa association, enthusiastically led by its vice president Sikay, captivated festival-goers with a lively and creative booth. Highlighting the many facets of the art of cosplay, Cosa offered more than just a stopping point for the curious; it was a truly immersive space dedicated to enthusiasts, novices, and experienced artists alike. Between exhibitions of meticulously designed costumes, original accessories, video projections of their shows, and impressive photo books, visitors were able to immerse themselves in the unique and rich universe of this dynamic association.
Behind each costume on display at the Cosa booth was a story, an artistic approach, and above all, a passion shared with generosity. The cosplayers in attendance were happy to chat with visitors, talking about their inspirations, the challenges they faced in making certain complex pieces, and even the behind-the-scenes of their shows. Some will long remember the impromptu photo session with several costumed members, smiling and friendly, who happily posed alongside amazed fans, both children and adults alike.
These kinds of spontaneous moments, where the barrier between exhibitors and visitors completely disappears, give Japan Expo its unique atmosphere: that of a friendly community gathering where sharing is paramount. On this subject, Sikay herself said in a short interview that it is precisely this spirit of exchange that drives them to come back every year with new creations and new ideas to share.
But what sets Cosa apart from other associations present at Japan Expo is its desire to bring people together around educational activities in addition to visual ones. In addition to its exhibitions, the association hosted several conferences and themed workshops focused on cosplay: how to get started, how to structure a complex costume, and even the keys to accurately portraying a character on stage. The participants, often very young, were able to try out sewing, makeup, and staging techniques under the guidance of experienced and knowledgeable members. This more educational aspect was praised on social media, with several internet users highlighting the kindness of the Cosa contributors and the quality of the advice given. The “Cosplay Scénique 101” workshop was one of the most talked about, particularly because it offered a few brave souls the opportunity to take to the stage and try their hand at the art of costume performance, encouraged by an enthusiastic audience.
The impact of Cosa's presence was not limited to the booth or the workshops. Browsing the internet, you can find many photos, particularly on our official Flickr page, showcasing the quality and diversity of their creations. The eye of Pierre Champion, Mulderville's official photographer, captured the essence of their work: aesthetic rigor, boundless creativity, and infectious joy. Several shots show moments of camaraderie between the members of the association and the public, immortalizing the raw emotions of these simple but essential exchanges. Of particular note are the smiles exchanged between a cosplayer in armor inspired by a fantasy anime and a little girl who came with her autograph book. It is precisely these moments, often invisible amid the general excitement, that make Japan Expo so beautiful and unique.
The Cosa association, drawing on the expertise and passion of Sikay, continues to play a fundamental role in structuring the French cosplay scene. More than just a booth, their space has become an essential stop for anyone who wants to explore this technical, artistic, and deeply human discipline. This 2025 edition confirms that Cosa is not just another association, but a true driving force for creativity and cohesion. Whether it's to admire, learn, or share, their presence at Japan Expo remains invaluable and exemplary. At a time when cosplay is becoming a central pillar of contemporary popular culture, initiatives such as those of Cosa remind us that behind every costume there is a team, a commitment, and a rare desire to pass on their knowledge.!
