For the first time ever, the celebrated Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder exhibit has arrived in the United States, making its grand debut at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego on March 15, 2025. This remarkable exhibition, which explores the intersection of science and fiction, offers fans and newcomers alike an unprecedented opportunity to step into the Whoniverse. Featuring an extensive collection of authentic props, immersive zones, and a historic display of all 17 Doctor costumes together for the first time, this showcase is a must-visit for anyone captivated by the longest-running science-fiction television series in history.
The experience begins with an iconic entrance through the TARDIS doors, setting the stage for an adventure that is, fittingly, much bigger on the inside. Visitors will journey through eight meticulously designed zones, each bringing to life different aspects of the Doctor Who universe. One of the standout sections, the Monster Vault, places guests face-to-face with some of the series' most infamous creatures. In addition, the exhibition is narrated by celebrated actor and writer Mark Gatiss, whose voice guides attendees through the science and lore embedded in the show’s 60-year legacy. Expert insights from scientists and researchers illuminate the real-world scientific concepts that underpin the stories, connecting the speculative wonders of Doctor Who with cutting-edge developments in fields such as artificial intelligence, space exploration, and environmental science.
Perhaps the most groundbreaking element of this U.S. premiere is the inclusion of all 17 Doctor costumes in one place, a feature exclusive to the Comic-Con Museum iteration of the exhibit. Never before displayed together, these outfits trace the evolution of the Doctor’s character across the decades, from William Hartnell’s First Doctor to Ncuti Gatwa’s recently introduced Fifteenth Doctor. This historic assembly offers a tangible connection to the beloved Time Lord’s many incarnations, highlighting the cultural and stylistic shifts that have shaped the show’s enduring appeal.
The exhibit, produced by Sarner International under license from BBC Studios, is designed to be both entertaining and educational. “Science has been part of Doctor Who’s DNA since the first episode aired in 1963,” said exhibit curator Steven Swaby. “This exhibit connects the early inspirations of the show with today’s scientific advancements, from the mysteries of the space-time continuum to the pressing realities of global warming.” True to this mission, visitors will navigate the Time Vortex Corridor, a feature that introduces guests to fundamental scientific principles while immersing them in the aesthetic of the Doctor Who universe. Whether exploring the biology of alien species, the mechanics of time travel, or the ethics of artificial intelligence, attendees will leave with a deeper appreciation of both the show’s imaginative storytelling and its ties to real-world discoveries.
Rita Vandergaw, Executive Director of the Comic-Con Museum, emphasized the exhibit’s broad appeal. “We’ve brought one of the largest exhibits in the Museum’s history to San Diego, and we’re thrilled to share it with fans, members, and visitors,” she said. “While Doctor Who is endlessly entertaining, it also carries a strong educational component that can inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and artists.” This sentiment reflects the museum’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the intersection of pop culture and learning, making Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder a fitting addition to its lineup.
The exhibit is open to the public at the Comic-Con Museum from Thursday through Tuesday, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., with the last entry at 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, with general admission priced at $30 for adults, $12 for children (ages 6–12), and $20 for seniors, students, and military personnel. Children five and under enter free of charge. Beyond the exhibition, admission includes access to the entire museum, where visitors can explore additional displays dedicated to the rich world of comics and popular arts.
This landmark event arrives as Doctor Who continues to thrive both on-screen and in popular culture. The show’s latest season, produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for BBC and Disney Branded Television, is currently available on BBC iPlayer in the UK and Disney+ internationally. With Season 2 set to premiere on April 12, the Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder exhibit serves as the perfect bridge between the show’s storied past and its exciting future.
As one of the longest-running and most beloved sci-fi franchises in television history, Doctor Who has cultivated a passionate global fanbase. Over the years, it has expanded beyond the screen into comics, novels, audiobooks, and collectibles, generating millions of sales worldwide. With the recent launch of the BBC iPlayer’s Whoniverse section, which houses over 800 related episodes and specials, the show’s accessibility and influence continue to grow. The arrival of Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder in San Diego marks yet another milestone in its illustrious journey, bringing fans closer to the Time Lord’s adventures than ever before. Whether a lifelong Whovian or a curious newcomer, visitors to this extraordinary exhibit will find themselves transported into a world where science meets fiction, and the impossible becomes reality.
