Convention - SDCC 2024 : Funko Fusion Panel and Press Room Unveil New Game Details and Exclusive Interviews

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 delivered an electrifying experience for fans of the Funko brand, as the much-anticipated Funko Fusion video game took center stage. Held at the San Diego Convention Center on July 24, 2024, the event was a spectacle of fandoms converging into one incredible crossover experience.

The panel for Funko Fusion was one of the highlights of this year’s SDCC, captivating the audience with exciting revelations about the game. Arthur Parsons, Head of Publishing at 10:10 Games, Jason Bischoff, Funko’s Vice President of Licensing & Business Development, and the renowned voice actor Kellen Goff—who voices Freddy Fazbear from the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise—were among the key figures leading the discussion. The panel also featured insights from Ian Cooper, Creative Director at Monkeypaw Productions, who provided an in-depth look into the inclusion of Jordan Peele’s Nope in the game.

Funko Fusion, an action-adventure game that brings together over 20 different properties from Universal Pictures, was demonstrated in all its glory. Fans were treated to glimpses of iconic characters from Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, The Walking Dead, Invincible, and many others. The game is set to support up to four players, making it a collaborative and chaotic experience for friends and families alike.

During the panel, the first-ever story trailer for the game was unveiled, introducing the primary antagonist, Eddy Funko—a sinister counterpart to Freddy Funko, voiced by Clancy Brown. Eddy's ability to shapeshift and possess villains from various franchises adds a thrilling twist to the gameplay, promising intense battles across diverse worlds​​.

In the press room, we had the opportunity to sit down for roundtable interviews with some of the creative minds behind Funko Fusion. Kellen Goff shared his excitement about reprising his role as Freddy Fazbear, expressing how the character’s new abilities in the game, such as wielding a pizza gun, offer fresh and fun ways to engage players. He also mentioned the unique challenge of voicing Freddy in a crossover context, where the character interacts with icons from other beloved franchises​.

Meanwhile, in another roundtable discussion, Arthur Parsons and Jason Bischoff delved deeper into the game’s development process. They highlighted the complexities of blending different worlds and characters while maintaining the unique charm of each franchise. The pair also teased more surprises that await players, including hidden levels and characters that are yet to be announced. They emphasized how Funko Fusion is not just about nostalgia but also about creating new experiences for a wide range of gamers​.

Funko Fusion is set to launch on September 13, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows, with a later release for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2024. With a roster of over 60 characters, including exclusive variants that can be unlocked through Funko Pop! figures, the game is poised to be a major hit among fans of both Funko and the included franchises.
