On May 16, 2024, the Salle des Arcades at Paris' Hotel de Ville was the scene of an exceptional evening marking the launch of Paris Games Week (PGW) 2024. This festive event celebrated the 12th anniversary of this emblematic French and European video game trade show, underlining its entry into a new era. The Hôtel de Ville vibrated to the rhythm of Paris Games Week in the presence of influential personalities such as Mr. Emmanuel Grégoire, First Deputy Mayor of Paris, and Ms. Pénélope Komitès, Deputy Mayor of Paris. The city of Paris, which is also preparing to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, as well as the League of Legends Worlds next October, is thus reaffirming its support for PGW, a real vector of attraction for the Paris region ecosystem.
James Rebours, President of SELL, underlined the importance of this evening: "We are delighted to launch Paris Games Week 2024 from such a prestigious venue as the Hôtel de Ville de Paris. This show can count on strong partners, whom we wanted to thank. In 2024, we'll be going even further with new players who will enable us to offer an ever richer experience, open to the worlds of entertainment and pop culture." The evening kicked off with the first "Rendez-vous business PGW", bringing together major players in the video game industry to discuss the strengths of Paris and France in this dynamic sector. This launch event was also an opportunity to pay tribute to all those who have brought PGW to life over the past 12 years. A not-to-be-missed event for gaming enthusiasts, the show has undergone a number of changes over the years to better reflect the richness and diversity of video game communities and universes.
Paris Games Week 2024, to be held from October 23 to 27 at Paris Expo - Porte de Versailles, promises a varied and immersive program. Visitors will be able to discover and test the latest international and French releases, and enjoy daily entertainment and videogame experiences for all ages. Although the show is particularly popular with 18-35 year-olds, it also attracts an intergenerational audience, united by a shared passion for video games. PGW promotes the responsible use of video games, raising awareness of good practice and equality within the industry and communities alike. Accessibility is also a priority, with dedicated areas for people with disabilities and accompaniment in French sign language (LSF).
Esports will take pride of place, with large-scale competitions such as the Banque Postale Coupe de France de League of Legends, the Trackmania World Cup, the Coupe des Étoiles and the Coupe de France de BlindTest. What's more, sport will take center stage in the "Sport & Esport Village", offering demonstrations, live matches and physical activities. PGW 2024 promises a more complete and entertaining experience than ever, integrating gaming, pop culture, cinema and music. Cosplay will be a highlight with the return of the "Cosplay Village", showcasing the most talented cosplayers.
To embody this edition, journalist and streamer Samuel Etienne has been chosen as ambassador. He will guide fans in their preparations, reporting on PGW news and behind-the-scenes stories. Samuel Etienne, after interacting online with gamer communities, met with enthusiasts at PGW 2023 and continues enthusiastically in his role as ambassador.
