At a press conference attended by director, screenwriter and producer James Cameron, Matthieu Orléan, Frédéric Bonnaud, Anaïs Duchet and Kim Butts, the Cinémathèque Française unveiled the outline of an exceptional exhibition devoted to the work of James Cameron. Entitled The Art of James Cameron, this retrospective, to be held from April 4, 2024 to January 5, 2025, promises a deep immersion into the universe of one of the most visionary filmmakers of our time.

This first-of-its-kind exhibition is a comprehensive celebration of Cameron's career, from his early days as a designer to his worldwide successes. It explores Cameron's continuous innovation, both technically and narratively, which redefined cinema with films such as Terminator, Titanic, and Avatar. More than a retrospective, the exhibition offers an intimate window into the creative process of a man whose vision has always been closely linked to technological advancement.

With over 300 exhibits, including sketches, drawings, costumes and 3D models from Cameron's personal archives, visitors can follow the director's exceptional journey. Each piece offers a glimpse into his ability to conceive worlds of astounding complexity and clarity.

The Art of James Cameron is distinguished by its ability to immerse visitors in the filmmaker's universe. Thanks to interactive installations and video-mapping, the exhibition transcends mere observation. Visitors will find themselves at the heart of iconic scenes from Cameron's films, from a confrontation with the T-800 from Terminator to a walk through the bioluminescent forest of Pandora.

Beyond the visual aspect, the exhibition offers a glimpse into Cameron's reflections on his artistic evolution. Through personal commentary, the director shares his inspirations and challenges, offering a rare perspective on his passion and perseverance.

The Art of James Cameron is not just a retrospective; it's an invitation to explore the career of a deeply inventive cinematic mind. Each element of the exhibition tells a part of the story of a man who constantly pushed the boundaries of the imaginable, reminding us of the boundless nature of cinema as an art of the imaginary.
