New York Comic Con 2023 witnessed spine-tingling excitement as Disney+ unleashed the iconic Goosebumps series, based on R.L. Stine's generation-defining books, during an exclusive panel. Popverse, the premier source for all things pop culture, caught all the chilling action and unveiled it to the world. The panel was part of the much-anticipated Main Stage event, presented by DoorDash.

This year, Disney+ tantalized fans with an early Halloween treat by announcing that the first season of Goosebumps would premiere on October 13, available for streaming on their platform. However, fans craving a sneak peek of the series were in for a treat at NYCC 2023.

The series, developed by Nicholas Stoller (known for The Muppets) and Rob Letterman (director of Pokémon Detective Pikachu), ventures into a serialized storytelling format that retains the iconic Goosebumps monsters and items from the classic books. It follows a group of five high schoolers who accidentally unleash supernatural forces upon their town, leading to a spine-tingling quest to save it. The investigation into the tragic death of a teen named Harold Biddle becomes the catalyst for unearthing their parents' dark secrets.

With episode titles like Go Eat Worms, Say Cheese and Die! and Cuckoo Clock of Doom, fans can expect an eerie homage to classic Goosebumps tales.

The much-anticipated panel at NYCC 2023 offered fans an exclusive look into the show, including its plot, creative team, and release schedule. The series debuts with five episodes on October 13, with the remaining five episodes releasing weekly. For viewers seeking to enjoy the thrills beyond the streaming platform, the first two episodes aired on Freeform as part of the 31 Nights of Halloween programming.

Goosebumps arrived on Disney+ and Hulu on October 13, 2023, in line with their Hallowstream and Huluween celebrations. The reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising the story, visuals, cinematography, writing, acting, and monster designs, despite some minor criticism of pacing.

The series' journey to the screen began in 2020 when it was announced that a Goosebumps TV series was in development by Sony Pictures, Original Film, and Scholastic Entertainment. This marked the first Sony Pictures Television series distributed by Disney. Rob Letterman, director of the 2015 Goosebumps film, was chosen to write and direct the series alongside Nicholas Stoller.

The cast includes Justin Long, Ana Yi Puig, Miles McKenna, Will Price, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Rachael Harris, and the addition of Rob Huebel in a recurring guest star role.

Principal photography commenced in Vancouver in October 2022, with cinematographers Stephen McNutt and Thomas Yatsko. Further filming took place at Whistler Olympic Park in February 2023. The series is edited by Christopher S. Capp and Tuan Quoc Le.

Goosebumps made its fearsome debut on October 13, 2023, with a total of ten episodes scheduled for release. The first five episodes premiered during the Hallowstream and Huluween celebrations, followed by weekly releases until November 17, concluding the first season.
