Premiere - Yannick: Our review of the Paris premiere of Quentin Dupieux's new film

By Sabine, Paris, L’Arlequin, 11 july 2023

On Tuesday evening, the premiere of Quentin Dupieux's film YANNICK took place at the Arlequin cinema in Paris. In the middle of a bad boulevard performance, a spectator, Yannick, gets up and interrupts the show to take over the evening. Yannick is magnificently played by Raphaël Quenard, surrounded by Pio Marmaï, Blanche Gardin and Sébastien Chassagne. This successful comedy is our favorite!

This film is also a beautiful story of cinema. As director Quentin Dupieux explains, the film was produced with his own funds, which is no longer the norm in French cinema. Today, films are financed without any risk, especially with pre-sales. Claude Berri was the last producer to take risks. Quentin Dupieux filmed this in camera show in a week at the Théâtre Dejazet in Paris. Post-production was recently completed.

Upon viewing the film, distributor Diaphana also fell in love with it. The team therefore decided to release the film very quickly on August 2. This counter-programming to the American blockbusters is a courageous choice. Most distributors give way to American films and schedule their releases for the fall. At the preview, the film's team discovered this comedy at the same time as the journalists. The atmosphere in the room was very friendly and pleasant. After the screening, the team met up at the Silentio des Prés for a drink.
