Convention - Paris Fan Festival 2023 : Our feedback on the panel dedicated to Starfix

By Mulder, Paris, Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, 16 april 2023

Starfix was a movie magazine dedicated to genre cinema, especially science fiction and horror films. It was interested in Hollywood productions as well as auteur and low-budget films. It was published from 1972 to 1993 and gained popularity during the 1980s. Starfix covered a wide range of film-related topics, including reviews, interviews, behind-the-scenes features, and articles on science fiction, fantasy and horror.

The magazine was known for its in-depth coverage of popular films, directors, and actors, with a strong emphasis on science fiction and fantasy cinema. Starfix played an important role in the promotion and celebration of genre films during its period of publication. It featured exclusive interviews with leading filmmakers and actors, as well as in-depth coverage of special effects and makeup techniques. Starfix had a loyal readership and was considered influential within the French film industry. However, due to financial difficulties, the magazine ceased publication in 1993. Despite its demise, Starfix remains nostalgic for many moviegoers who appreciate its contribution to genre film coverage during its years of operation.

With a special issue on the way, the main members of this cult magazine were present at a panel that was very informative and allowed us to learn some tasty anecdotes. Present at this panel were Patrice Giraud, François Cognard and Christophe Lemaire.

The Paris Fan Festival is an event organized by New Vega, the media communication group specialized in Entertainment. After a successful first edition in 2022, the event is back for a second edition that will take place at the Porte de Versailles on April 15 and 16, 2023. Bringing together all the universes of Pop Culture in one place, fans will be able to discover a range of events and activities around their favorite universes: cinema and series, manga and comics, gaming and board games, lifestyle and food.

Comic books are in the spotlight with the presence of the greatest authors and cartoonists, but also Teri Hatcher, Lois from Lois and Clark, or a life-size Batmobile as well as many animations.  In addition to meeting their heroes and creators, fans can fight crime with many activities for the whole family. They can venture into the superhero village to walk through immersive settings and encounter the mythical Batmobile in its Tim Burton movie version.

Visitors will be able to complete their super-collection from the many publishers and bookstores present on the site. An Urban Comics stand awaits visitors, while derivative products are not to be outdone thanks to the ranges offered by Hasbro, Mattel or Fariboles. Finally, a fascinating exhibition of dioramas created by enthusiasts completes the program. Other emblematic sagas of Pop-Culture, such as Stargate SG-1 or Harry Potter, are also present at the Paris Fan Festival. In order not to miss any announcement, R2D2 has compiled the best links from the galaxy.
