Festivals - Sundance 2023 : day seven & eight highlights

Sundance Film Festival welcomed film fans over the action-packed seventh and eighth day. Festival events included buzzing press lines for the encore presentations of Navalny, CODA, and Klondike. This is the first time these Sundance award winners have screened in person at the Festival in Park City after captivating audiences around the world as part of the online Festival’s in previous years. Tomorrow,  the final encore screening will be of the 2022 Oscar Winner Summer of Soul (… Or When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised). 
 
Additionally, tomorrow brings the anticipated Sundance Film Festival Awards presentation taking place in-person at The Ray Theatre. Audiences can follow along as winners are announced on the Festival’s official Twitter and Instagram pages throughout the event. Festival in-person events continue through January 29, while audiences at home across the country get to participate in the discovery and buzz coming from the first few days of the Festival by viewing over 130 films on demand via the Sundance online platform starting today, Tuesday, January 24. A special Explorer Pass is available to purchase individually for $25 or as part of overall packages in which audiences get online access to the Short Film programs and Indie Episodic screenings by visiting https://festival.sundance.org/tickets. 
 
The Sundance Film Festival is an artist program of the Sundance Institute. Proceeds earned through Festival ticket sales go to uplifting and developing emerging artists on a year-round basis through focused labs, direct grants, fellowships, residencies, and more.
 
Klondike
Film director Maryna Er Gorbach and producer Mehmet Bahadir Er attended the film’s encore screening and walked the press line.  World Premiered in the 2022 Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Dramatic Competition section, where it won the Directing Award: World Cinema Dramatic. 

Navalny

Film talent included subjects Christo Grozev, Yulia Navalny, Maria Pevchikh, director Daniel Roher and producers Diane Becker and Shane Boris who attended the film’s encore screening and walked the press line. World Premiered in the 2022 Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. Documentary Competition section, where it won Festival Favorite and the Audience Award: U.S. Documentary.The film received a standing ovation from the audience following the conclusion of the film. CODA

Film talent included Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur and director Sian Heder who attended the film’s encore screening and walked the press line.  World Premiered in the 2021 Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. Dramatic Competition section, where it won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic, Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic, and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast. Upcoming : Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)
On Friday, January 27th Sundance will host an encore screening of Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), the 2022 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary Feature.  World Premiered in the 2021 Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. Documentary Competition section, where it won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Documentary and Audience Award: U.S. Documentary.

The Sundance Film Festival Awards will be announced in an event on Friday, January 27th at The Ray Theatre, including the jury and audience awards.  Winners will be announced on Sundance Film Festival’s official social pages live throughout the event:  Twitter and Instagram
