Soundtrack - Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Lord of the Rings Online with a new Soundtrack Release

It’s said that music is deeply linked to memory - a song can pull you to a place and time so thoroughly it’s as if you have teleported there, if just for a moment. But sometimes music brings you to a place you’ve never been - only a place you have dreamt of, imagined, and molded within your mind’s eye. That is what composer Chance Thomas strove to do when creating his unique score for Lord of the Rings: Online.

An avid fan of Tolkien even before the films were released, Thomas spent years studying every mention of music, voices, and instruments within the pages of the beloved works by J.R.R. Tolkien. These perusals gave birth to a 25-page-document called The Tolkien Music Style Guide - an incredible compendium which lists specific instrumental palettes, vocal ranges, stylistic guidelines and even home keys that were all based on references and inferences drawn directly from the text. This complete dedication and attention to detail means that the music that Thomas has created for the realm of Middle Earth is imbued with the passion and eloquent brilliance the pages of the series were rife with.

The Lord of the Rings Online may be Chance's most widely admired work. Each of his compositions is based on years of personal research into the literature - painstakingly crafting instrumental palettes, vocal ranges, stylistic tendencies and emotional conjuring based on direct references and inferences scattered throughout the text. According to Game Developer Magazine, the result is a score, "...drawn from the very pen of Tolkien's writings, ringing of truth to anyone familiar with its pages."

Chance Thomas has truly thrown himself thoroughly into this land of fantasy and emerged victorious with music that is so poignantly RIGHT for the subject matter that you will find yourself closing your eyes and walking through the Shire or lounging in Bombadil’s Cottage. These must-listens for any fantasy or Tolkien fan are available on a 26-song double album celebrating the 10th anniversary of Lord of the Rings: Online, releasing this day
