Movies - Relic, discover the new teaser

  • 23.05.2020

“Several years ago I took a trip back to Japan to see my grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. It was a trip I’d kept delaying for one reason or another, and when I finally got around to seeing her, it turned out I’d left it too late – she didn’t recognize who I was. The guilt was hard to swallow. At a certain level, it felt worse than death - to see your loved one progressively lose parts of themselves, and slowly become a stranger. The rural town where my grandmother lives is where I’d spent many of my summer holidays, attending the local primary school with my cousins. During that trip I observed how much the town had declined – all the younger generations choosing to relocate to the bigger cities, leaving an aging...

Movies - The Rental, ready for a new great and original horror movie

  • 22.05.2020

“ The Rental was inspired by my own paranoia about the concept of home-sharing, and I think the best way to contextualize the film is with a quote from the founder of AirBNB: “We want to build a website where people publicly post pictures of their most intimate spaces: their bedrooms, the bathrooms— the kinds of rooms you usually keep closed when people come over. And then, over the internet, they’re going to invite complete strangers to come sleep in their homes. It’s going to be huge!” The country is as divided as it's ever been and no one trusts each other, yet we trust staying in the home of a stranger simply because of a few positive reviews online. This felt like a good jumping off point for a grounded thriller, which could tap into real...

Movies - The Rental : Let’s talk with Dave Franco

  • 22.05.2020

Q : What is it about genre film that attracted you when it was time to make your feature directorial debut ? Dave Franco ; I think most people know me from the comedies that I’ve acted in, but personally speaking—as a viewer myself—there’s nothing that makes me more excited than playing with genre. As a first-time director, I had many reasons for choosing this script, some of them logistical: I could make it in one location with a small cast and crew. But on top of that, historically, genre films are where you can really play around and have fun with the style and the visuals and the overall vibe. I felt like I could really put my stamp on it. Q : What are some of your favorite genre movies? The ones that had an...
