Exposition - SDCC 2017 : 5th Annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero

Back by popular demand and celebrating five years at Comic Con, the annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero panel opened Comic Con, Thursday July 20, 2017 at 10 am in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel, 1 Park Blvd, next to the Convention Center. Unreleased music and videoclips from upcoming projects was featured. Leading Hollywood composers explaint the process and challenges of creating the musical voice behind the superhero and their environment as well as collaborating with the director, producers and the franchise.

Panelist included: Mark Isham (Cloak & Dagger, Blade) Marco Beltrami (Logan, Wolverine), Ludwig Goransson (Black Panther, Death Wish), Brian Tyler (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Power Rangers), David Russo (Gotham), Lorne Balfe (Lego Batman Movie) and moderated by Ray Costa of Costa Communications.

The panel consistently debuted film and TV clips from upcoming projects. Composers discuss collaborating with the directors to convey the story. The panelists emphasize the integral nature that music plays within TV shows and movies. Previous composers include Christophe Beck (Ant-Man, Frozen), Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (2017), Blake Neely (Arrow, Super Girl, The Flash), John Powell (the Bourne Franchise, Hancock) Tom “Junkie XL” Holkenborg (Deadpool, Mad Max: Fury Road), John Ottman (X-Men: Apocalypse, Superman Returns), Lorne Balfe (Terminator: Genisys), and John Debney (Iron Man 2).
