Serie - The Mist : Episod 105 The Waiting Room Review

By Mulder, Los Angeles, 19 july 2017

The Mist is an American science fiction-horror thriller television series developed by Christian Torpe for Spike. It is based on the horror novella of the same name by author Stephen King. An unexplained mist slowly envelops the city of Bridgton, Maine, creating an almost impenetrable barrier to visibility. The residents of the town soon learn the situation is even more precarious as hidden within the mist are numerous monsters of various sizes that attack and kill anything that moves. The Waiting Room Synopsis: Kevin and the others reach a hospital where Kevin has an unexpected and painful encounter with his brother Mike.

Episode 5 of The Mist brings Morgan Spector who plays Kevin to the town hospital of Bridgton. While delivering a hurt member of his group Kevin looks through the hospital trying to find his wife, Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) and his daughter Alex (Gus Birney) but instead finds his critically injured brother, Mike. With this encounter we discover a little more about the Mist and its overall supernatural capabilities. One apparently of which is its ability to harness memories from an unknown source and channel it through victims being manipulated by the Mist. A group of which attacks Mike divulge information he claims they could never have know. Besides this revelation, Kevin maintains flashbacks of his life at a younger age when he and Eve first moved into their current home. This is used to illustrate a healthier and more function form of their relationship.

Kevin’s brother Mike also begs for him to perform an immoral sin but the struggle he has with committing this crime helps retain his status as the hero of the series or in the very least a “good man” who has not been corrupted. The Mist seems to tormenting the cast physically as well as mentally now but Kevin withstands it all by coming up with an alternative solution to a problem most would easily write off as impossible and unnecessary. The alternative solution that Kevin comes up with is definitely action packed and a thrill to watch.

The rest of the episode is focused on the flashbacks from when Kevin and Eve are together in a more honeymoon state of their relationship. A big secret that wasn’t even know to the audience of being a secret is revealed and it is a shocker that will create even more questions than a usual episode. Eve’s promiscuous background in the town of Bridgton is called upon and this is the first instance that we see Kevin becoming aware of how everyone else’s views Eve. Apparently a connection between Eve and a mystery figure topples the traditional family structure the Copeland family was camouflaging itself with. It’s interesting to see because it further proves the depths of loyalty and trust that he is willing to go for Eve. His moral nature is challenged throughout the episode in present time as well as in the past and Kevin never falters. Kevin remains the one constant of the series thus far and this glimpse into events prior to the Mist arriving in town is just more proof.

This episode of the Mist is also heavily sexually which is a new addition to the Christian Torpe series and though both scenes were essential to the story being told and development of the characters we wonder if there will be more mature content in the future. The show seemed to be more geared towards a family drama/ horror fans of Stephen King and if there are other episodes with the same eroticisim will it drive audiences away or not factor in at all? Only time will tell but we are eager to watch the evolution of The Mist.
